Sacred Heart has several girls on their tennis team who are scheduled to take the AP Biology exam on Friday at the same time they are scheduled to play a match in state tourney. The KHSAA has indicated to adjust the schedule would be unfair to other teams and inconsistent with how they have treated other situations (my words not theirs). Thoughts on how this should be handled?

 

Point of clarity, the SH girls are taking the AP exam Friday, which is a make up day because they missed the original testing date due to that being the date of an IB exam, which I understand can only be taken on the day scheduled.

Would one ask for a change in the schedule if the girls also ran track/played LAX and had a conflict? Would they change it if two girls had to to Harvard for an interview for admission?

Forgive me if this is a dumb question as I never had anything "AP" in my high school career, but is this test administered by Scared Heart? If so, could they rearrange the test again since the girls made it this far athletically? And if the ladies are stressed out about it, could it affect the outcome academically or athletically? Again, just asking.

We took the AP tests at our school 20 years ago. However, it is a standardized test that goes towards earing potential college credit. I can see the other side of this argument and say that this gives the girls extra study time, and potentially, knowledge of the questions on the exam through their friends. Not saying that would happen, just know that I sure would have asked my friends what was on the test.

AP tests are administered by the school, but I believe the dates (original and make up) have to be established through the AP program. Basically meaning, you can't have kids taking the AP whenever they feel like it.

You likely couldn't adjust the state track meet or swim meet, but they likely could adjust the schedule here. In addition, the testing window is happening during the academic day when academics should definitely be the priority.

The testing window can not be changed, it is standard nationwide.

That is correct. One test date and one make up day - nationwide.

 

When my daughter took the AP US History Exam two weeks ago Lin Manuel Miranda (look him up if you don't know who that is) sent a "best of luck" tweet to tall the kids that morning, which I thought was pretty cool.

There just not enough flexibility to make a fair adjustment to the schedule, that wouldn't disrupt the following rounds, in terms of start times probide fair rest periods between matches for all players.

They can't help it that Sacred Heart's students were having to make up tests because of another issue.

The other "issue" was also a nationwide academic standardize test and the KHSAA still scheduled a state athletic championship during the school day and an AP testing window.
