Sorry it took so long to post,I didnt get back from Laurel Cty game until about 3:00 AM. Holmes looked good on O and D in the first half, DJ was a mastermind of the Holmes O. He took a few good licks in the first half and only punted once in the second. James #5 for Holmes took over the dawg O and continued to run the Dawgs down field past the 10-11 in the box D by the Cardinals. Overall it was a great road victory by the dawgs and I am proud to say a Holmes team traveled 3 hours south and won a big first game of the season. IMO Oppion the difference in the game was Holmes's speed compared to SL's speed. SL's D ran a 3-5 D almost the complete game and it didn't help to much against Holmes's speed. Holmes did run out of gas in the third quarter and I'm sure that will be addressed by Coach T and the Holmes coaching staff next week. Holmes will get in better shape, I can guarentee that between Coach T and our D-Line / Strenght Coordinator Coach P we will be in shape very soon. Can you say lot's of sprints? Overall I proud of my Dawgs and it could be an interesting season in the COV.

Dawg out!

Thanks for the recap Dawg. I wish people would have listened to us in the other thread when we said that this Bulldogs speed would be the difference of the game.

How did Thomas Benton look? Who got MVP from Holmes? I'm assuming James Miller on offense but what about defense?

Let's hope so. Coach Trosper and his staff really have worked hard with these kids these past couple years trying to get things right down there in Covington. Maybe this is the first big step toward his first winning season as a head coach.

Good luck to all the players and coaching staff the rest of the season.

I think a lot of folks down in this part of the state expected they were going to see the same team they did last year, and they kind of overlooked Holmes. It was very obvious to me this was a different Bulldog team when I looked at them and they appeared to have about twice as many players on the sideline as last year.

I think the main difference from this year to last is that this year they have ALOT more experience and also Duran was around all summer to work on the offense whereas last year he only had i think 10 practices to work on it.

But for SL to score 26 points on this Bulldog defense, thats impressive because this defense is pretty good. Did the starters for both teams stay in the whole game? or did SL score their second half points on 2nd team?

Other than Jefferson sitting out the second half, it was pretty much starters the whole way. Look, it's no shame for Holmes to allow some points to SL — SL is a pretty explosive offensive team, with a QB returning who threw for almost 2,900 yards last season as a frosh. They have talent at the skill positions, but they made some miscues last night that got them in the early hole, and the defense wasn't disciplined enough to stop the Holmes running game and bail out the offense.

Sounds like Holmes is definitely a rushing threat. What were Dj's passing stats?

I spoke with my nephew this am and he plays for Holmes and said Justin Young had a great game on defense. His biggest concern might be the kicking game missed I think three pat they will need some field goals to stay in close games.

I never said it was a shame to give up 26 points to South. I saw them play last year and came away VERY imrpessed with their QB. I know South is a very good team which is why I'm so impressed, not that Holmes won, but by this margin. I picked them to win originally, but I just thought it would have been a closer game.

I was actually giving South credit. They got down big early but tried to make a comeback. But were the miscues they made last night due to a good Holmes effort? or were they mental mistakes?

Little bit of both, really. SL carriers weren't doing a very good job protecting the ball while running, Holmes saw opportunities in the form of exposed footballs, and made SL pay with good stripping technique. The INT was simply the DB making a great read and break on the ball.

Who got the INT?

Also who got MVP from Holmes on O and D?

This score doesn't surprise me much. Thought Holmes would win between 2 and 3 TD's.

:thumb: ...South Laurel is a very good team though. I'm interested in seeing how well they do next week and so forth though so I can get a true grasp on whether or not this Holmes team is really that good or if South just had a bad game. Either way I'm proud of my Dawgs and expect big things out of them this year.
