May 16, 201610 yr As some previous posters have alluded to, one problem is Who decides what is politically correct or not? Another problem I have with it is that it takes away from good-natured ribbing. Many things are said for the sake of humor or irony. There is no intention to humiliate or denigrate a certain class of persons. Extreme political correctness, as estsblished and enforced by the PC police, does not allow for this. People need to ease up a bit
May 17, 201610 yr Too many opinions on what is politically correct to really weigh this. There are probably as many opinions on PC as there are people. Bottom line to me is EVERYONE should be valued, treated with dignity, and deserve non judgment. Going to have to disagree because there are idiots out there who deserve zero respect, have no dignity and need to be judged (and maybe jailed). Your statement exemplifies the absurdity that is the PC culture.
May 17, 201610 yr I consider myself a very polite person, but at the same time I also consider myself politically incorrect. I address adults as ma'am and sir, Mr. and Mrs. I say please and thank you. I also refer to illegal aliens and criminals, not undocumented residents or justice involved individuals. Fort Hood was terrorism not workplace violence. And for the record I do believe that political correctness is bad for America. ^^^^^^ This is PC at its finest. Some of my favorite old timers are the least PC people you would ever meet. Clearly raised during a different time, there stright talk is a breath of fresh air for me. Your statement exemplifies the absurdity that is the PC culture. Respect is earned. I didn't mention that. It is not for me to judge. The laws will but not me. I could care less what others think about my thoughts, I can only control me and my thoughts. I have no idea what PC is nor care. I am going to treat people as I stated. You will do as you please as well as others. I won't think you or others are idiots. I just disagree. Not sure why disagreeing makes someone an idiot. It doesn't in my mind.

I never stated that those who disagree with me are the idiots I referenced. Do you really believe that you go through life without judging others? We make judgements in nearly every interaction and observation, every day. If you claim that you are completely non judgemental, you are being dishonest. Yes, right or wrong, I just made a judgement about you based on my observation of your post and our interaction in this thread. I am sure you have some opinion about me as well, based on the same criterion. The difference between us is, I am not too PC to state mine.

I have judged people too soon and I was wrong more often than not when I did, I am fallible, very unfair to that person IMO. But everyone deserves not to be judged. Meaning until you know someone, don't judge someone, but you, I, and others have. But I really haven't judged you because I have no clue who you are and really could care less. I will not judge until I meet and interact with someone over time. I will bet your judgment of me is wrong. Carry on.

In this day and age, it is unsafe and unwise to do otherwise. If you claim not to, then my initial judgement of you was wrong. I did not previously think of you as foolish...
May 17, 201610 yr There's a lot of baggage to unpack. What some people consider being "politically correct" is simply being polite or treating people with dignity. I don't see anything wrong with this and most of us adhere to it whether we admit it or not. That some people believe we would be better off if we were more insulting is bizarre. Some people consider being "politically correct" to be a social stigma against "telling it like it is." In my experience I don't think there is any problem for someone to "tell it like it is" as long as they can back it up. Instead, "telling it like it is" tends to be more like what I described above and is just meant to be insulting. There are probably some extreme cases of obtusely-worded phrases being used that can rightly be made fun of. There are also attempts to shut down certain opinions (like a speaker being drowned out by protesters), but this seems to be a different thing altogether. I disagree with the last paragraph PC culture is directly tied to shutting out thoughts or ideas you disagree with. It all ties directly into this false sense that some have , that they have a right to not be offended.
May 18, 201610 yr I'm getting very tired of it. It's too much. We have gone overboard with it. Everything is an issue to someone and they are wanting to complain about it. Latest today for me was a General Lee car that we produced.
May 18, 201610 yr Absolutely out of control. I try to be as politically incorrect as possible. :smug:
