Been reading and there are several versions of the TF1000 ball and the reviews are really poor on some. So if you get your own, be careful what you get. Also I believe the item numbers are backwards. The 74-784 is the girls ball and the 74-783 is the boys ball from what I looked up.

My exact thoughts. The KHSAA gets another kick back and all the teams that have purchased Rawlings balls are screwed at least when post season starts.

 

Yep....no way all the district and region hosts will be able to spring for the handful of balls needed to host a district or regional tourney.

I suppose that's true but it seems $$$$ is a driving factor in why schools do/don't want to seed.

I think the home team can use whatever ball they want in the regular season. It is the post season where the official ball is required. Most schools just choose to use the official ball all year since they will be using it in the post season. Correct me if I'm wrong on that.

 

I don't know to be 100% honest because these handful of officials could have been wrong.

 

I was coaching at a school in KY that didn't have a lot of basketballs when I got the job (or money to buy more). I called in some favors from coaches and an affluent school gave me like 15 of their "old" balls (which were much nicer than anything we had). The problem was this school was in Ohio. And they had the OHSAA logo on them. We used them most games and didn't have any issue, but a handful of times we were told we had to use balls that had the KHSAA branding on them. They were the same exact ball (Rawlings) as the KHSAA one. So not sure exactly what the rule is, but some officials out there are under the impression they have to be the KHSAA basketball.

ANY ball can be used during regular season, that is correct, Lex Cath uses The Rock during their big tournaments.

It might get more money for the Khsaa but it costs the school's money.

We used Spalding basketballs when I was in Florida. The ball doesn't have that padded feel the Rawlings currently offers. I prefer the Spalding ball over all the other basketballs. Schools can use whatever basketball they want in the regular season. Schools hosting districts and regional tournaments get basketballs paid for out of the gate money for the tournament.

I would. But that's why you do fundraising. Basketballs cost roughly $45 per basketball (this is what vendors would give us). You can get 10 basketballs for $450. That's a car wash. Simple.

As opposed to using that money for something else. Some schools that would not be a problem but others it could. The change costs everybody.

Don't most schools buy new balls every year anyway?? I understand you'll need some of the newer balls for practice as well, but how many game balls does the average team go through in a season??

I would think that Most buy at least a couple each year.
