Spalding is now the official basketball for the KHSAA

Featured Replies

Taking what is being discussed in the football section, I thought I would start a post for basketball. KHSAA has changed the official ball from Rawlings to Spaulding starting next season from what it looks like in the article. What do you think about the Spaulding basketball? I kind of liked the Rawlings basketball and am not familiar with the Spaulding TF1000. Anyone have any experience with Spaulding?

These are the official balls according to @sweet16

The adopted products are:

Baseball - Spalding TF Pro HS Baseball (41-100HS)

Basketball-B - Spalding TF1000 Classic (74-7849)

Basketball-G - Spalding TF1000 Class 28.5 (74-7839)

Football - Spalding Alpha -72-6758

Softball - Spalding Dudley Thunder Heat-Polycore (43-147)

I have no idea about the Spalding basketball. I will have to reserve judgement.

In my opinion the TF1000 classic has changed over the last few years. The original in my opinion was one of the best basketballs you can buy. However, the durability of those were not up high schools expectations and Spaulding did a redesign to give it more durability at the price of feel and detail.

It is a good ball, but not as good as it was 5 or 6 years ago. You can still buy them on eBay, but you are gonna pay $175 for one most likely instead of the $75 the new ones cost now.

So will the KHSAA send out checks to all the participating schools to purchase all brand new balls?

Why not put in a shot clock, and spend the money on something that's worth it!

I have no clue, but seems to me, somebody somewhere has to be enjoying the benefits of the ball switch, other wise why hoist a cost onto schools that there is no need for, unless I missed the great basketball rebellion of 2015-2016:idunno:

So what happens to all those schools that just purchased brand new Ralwings basketballs and now they have to switch?

Because the shot clock does not add $$ to the KHSAA's pockets. Changing companies does.

If the KHSAA makes schools pay for their championship trophies, I highly doubt they'll be sending any checks to schools to buy new balls.

I think the home team can use whatever ball they want in the regular season. It is the post season where the official ball is required. Most schools just choose to use the official ball all year since they will be using it in the post season. Correct me if I'm wrong on that.

Hard to get used to one ball then use another ball during post season. I'd venture to say every team will by all new balls!

Unnecessary expense if you ask me. Just another KHSAA set back!

I doubt some programs can afford to replace all of their balls with the price being between 55-65 dollars a ball.

My exact thoughts. The KHSAA gets another kick back and all the teams that have purchased Rawlings balls are screwed at least when post season starts.

I would say baseball will take the biggest hit, rawlings makes really good baseballs , that's their bread and butter.
