I was going to say it sounds like Axl hurt himself, and I guess it looks like that too.

 

I don't know how anyone could have thought that was going to be a good idea. Axl ain't cool enough to sing with AC/DC and his voice isn't going to last more than a few concerts.

 

Can't blame Axl, though. It's a tough gig for anybody to come in and fill Brian Johnson's shoes.

 

Please stop acting like Brian Johnson was somehow good at what he did. The guy was awful, shrill and terrible, and always looked like he was pinching off a big loaf with every note he sang.

 

That said, if you guys are finding that Axl doesn't measure up to the turdpile that was Brian Johnson only validates further my tremendously low regard of Axl.

I would agree with your assessment of the old Brian Johnson, but I don't think your criticism applies to the young Brian Johnson, say from 1980 when he first replaced the late Bon Scott. His sound fit AC/DC to a tee. I was skeptical that anyone could "replace" Bon Scott but Johnson did as well as anyone could. But who could sing like that for all those years without damaging one's voice? Hard to do that when you get old and as you mention, he looks and sounds like it is nearly killing him. But who ever thought a rocker would live long enough to look and sound old?

 

Of course, my assessment of AC/DC, Brian Johnson, and Bon Scott are made via my memory of them from my adolescence.

 

As for Axl Rose, it sure didn't help him that he looked like he was sitting in a rocking chair while he screeched.

I've heard two more songs...."If You Want Blood" and "Rock or Bust". On these two, Axl does sound better. Still not winning me over, but better.

In the spirit of the time machine thread, if it were in my power after Bon Scott died, I would have disbanded AC/DC. That's with the knowledge that I'd be eliminating "Back In Black," which I rather like. The sins committed against rock'n'roll after that album makes me feel justified in doing so.

 

Totally worth it to have never had to suffer through "Thunderstruck" on an endless loop at HS FB and baseball games for the past 15 years.

He also claimed that, besides his feelings of loyalty to his mates, he felt his band was going to continue to get bigger. In 2016, he was considered as a candidate to replace Brian Johnson as lead vocalist of AC/DC.

Schue, if it were in my power to go back in time, Bon wouldn't have died.

 

It has been suggested that Marc Storace of Krokus step in for Brian Johnson and, back in the day, he definitely sounded more like Bon Scott than any other singer I've heard. I remembered them being criticized for trying to sound too much like AC/DC. I picked up an album in 1982--One Vice at a Time. I believe you can hear the similarity on their song Long Stick Goes Boom, both of the lead singer (Storace) to Bon Scott and the band to AC/DC. Neither are as good as the original, IMO.

 

Hence, it's seems reasonable to consider Storace now, but I have a hunch Angus won't approve of anyone who isn't a bona fide star in his own right. It may be wisest to get a young rocker to sing for AC/DC in their shows now. Old men can't sing those songs well. That's why B_Ball_Fan suggested the female singer. She can sing it without hurting herself.
