Since this thread is about an open coaching position, any word on if they have hired someone?

Per Khsaa score board Richey coached his last year at Grant 06/07. Martin is a nice player but I don't think she was playing at age 8 or 9.

Will most likely try to buy a mailbox and say they are living in Ft Thomas. Haha. The irony is isn't this the very thing the bluebird faithful bashed HC for.

 

Not even close to the same thing!!! There is a difference between a kid showing up on the doorstep and...well you know what!

 

Everyone said all along that no one had an issue with transfers. Again, it wasn't the "what" that happened. It's the "how". But who didn't know this would be coming with this announcement.

My guess if they don't move is they will claim financial reasons for the move. That is the one that seems to work when going from private to public and not moving.

Can anyone speak to the reason behind Martin choosing Highlands? She has accepted a college offer already. Highlands always has good basketball, but it's not like they're loaded like Holmes, MasonCo, SK, Campbell. If she wanted to get to a state tourney her senior year, these teams probably have better chances. Assuming they still live in Grant County, that is pretty far too. Can't imagine it's easy relationally to pick up and move schools your senior year. Is there a Highlands connection?

 

I have absolutely no idea of the reason, but I can tell you what most try to tell people on the football boards. More kids come to Highlands for things other than sports. Sports can be a factor, but there are more kids at that school that came for other reason that far outweigh sport decisions.

 

You may ask, then why not just stay at ND if it acedemics? That's a great question and I have no idea of that answer. But my guess would be unhappy with recent decisions.

 

As a parent, I would do ANYTHING to make sure my kid is in the right environment for her. Choosing HHS over the other schools you mention (for more reasons than just sports) is their choice. You're right, HHS losses a lot this year to graduation. But maybe "winning" isn't everything to this family.

 

And btw, even IF HHS isn't as competitive as the last few years (but I'll wait and see on that), they will be back very soon. And the type of team they will have over the next few years will be totally different than what you are used to seeing come out of HHS.

Is she leaving because of this coaching change? Was a reason ever given for ND's coach leaving? Maybe all of that left a bad taste in their mouths with ND.

Ok, I don't normally but I must say something. First, I think NDA will be a better team. I feel it was pretty obvious that Martin transferred due to her affiliation with the Stars and Coach Foust. With that said, it was important for her to be the "play maker" by the coach. I believe there is loads of talent at NDA that won't be denied an opportunity so she can score. She had most attempts for scoring (around 400 or so) and only shot around 30%.(riherds). Doesn't that say something? Also there was no rebounding or defense I believe Riherds has her for 50 rebounds for the year. I wouldn't call that the best player. So in reference to the all conference comment, It's really just a popularity contest with coaches votes anyway. Heck, were the HHS girls on the list? But we know they had good players. So all conference? Again, popularity contest. Especially when you're constantly forcing bad shots. For those reasons, I believe we will be fine.

 

Also, I know that coach Foust and Richey are close, both are with Martin as well. I have seen Richey this summer at events sitting on the bench or watching her play. So There is a connection and even Twitter will show you that. But to each his own. I hope HHS allows her to be the "play maker" like Coach Foust did. I think we all kinda feel it's the reason for her transfer. Good luck to her at HHS. Heck, maybe coach Foust will join her there.

For me, I could care less whether ND is better or not. But to even start to say this player wasn't their best player or even start to think she was a all-region player because of popularity is just silly. No matter what stats you want to throw out there, this kid is good and would help or be the best player on almost any NKy team. Do think the "stats" you are quoting were influenced by the entire teams game plan to stop or slow her down?? And what about her contribution on defense. She caused chaos whenever she was around the ball when we played her. And do you think some of those "bad shots" may have come when she was trying to carry her team because they weren't the best scoring team if I remember correctly. Sometimes when there aren't a lot of scoring options, scorers will force shots to try and get their team going.

 

Say what you want about the team being or getting better. But you can forget about trying to convince anyone that has seen her play that "she's really not that good". She's an undersized kid that plays her tail off and earns what she gets.

 

It really sounds like some are bitter about the move. Which I get! But don't knock the kid down.

Regarding the insinuation of the Richie's being there to watch Martin play AAU. Nice try. Did you ever think that maybe they were there watching their kids play AAU. Because that's exactly what was happening. They have several young ones that play at a very high level. That's who they were there watching. Was Martin in the gym, sure...along with several other NKy kids that play AAU...including several Highlands kids. But you really want to try and connect them with Martin deciding to come to HHS. Wow! Have at it!

 

HHS and all the other NKy schools are waiting on a particular ruling before they break into AAU. For now, just observers.

 

I can assure you this and if you don't believe me you can ask anyone that knows her at all...Jaime Ritchie is the most purest coach and human being you will meet. She will not even come close to breaking rules and she most certainly doesn't let her husband! Lol! I coach at HHS. We are not allowed to talk about anything until the student is enrolled or has had conversations with the administration and we are given the green light to talk about our program or facilities. HHS is used to people trying to "catch" them because of the football program. They tell us when someone approaches you about coming to Highlands to politely say "I cannot speak to you about it. You must first speak with (about three different administrators)". That's what a coach will tell you. If they don't, they are breaking school policy.

I am Not bitter at all. I sincerely believe NDA will be a better team. Now I didn't see chaos in the defense like you're saying but maybe I should watch film and I referenced riherds cause the numbers also show that not only were there missed opportunities due to forced shots, but there were players with better shooting percentages that were capable of scoring. But again, in mine and others opinions, it is a popularity contest. And HHS now has an interest so I understand your comments. However, it's just my opinion and to me an all around player is better than just an offensive player and in my opinion the coach wanted her to be the play maker. So I could see how you would think that if she was constantly pressured to make the play. I'm my opinion Miles was an all around player and seasoned. Do you feel Martin "carried" miles? I don't, then again Miles wasn't made promises to transfer. I'm not going to get into the particulars, but like I said, it was a popularity contest and still is. Too many coaches are in the high school-AAU loop together and that's just the way it is. Again, What all around player doesn't rebound or have solid defense. If there was so much chaos in the defense, why didn't NDA make it out of districts and lose in first round? That's all she was able to play was defense in districts if you recall. As I previously stated, NDA will be fine. Everyone lost players this past year. Good luck to her and Highlands.

Oh and I didn't see Ms Richey nor was I referring to her. I saw Mr. Richey at the games. I've never seen her there Just to clear that comment up that you took off the grid. I believe the comments in this thread referenced Mr. Richey, and it does say assistant coach. My apologies.
