Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds - 2015 Grade

Featured Replies

B-

The Breds finished strong with a loss in the finals to Mayfield that included a touchdown assist error that went against NCC.

However, while I applaud the schedule NewCath played, they got beat around a lot in the regular season. Additionally, some of their regular season wins were close. If you are a NCC fan it had to be a fantastic season of football to watch.

Agree or disagree with a B- for NewCath? How would you grade them?

Curious why a B- if you again make the state finals

It is a season inclusive grade.

What grade would you give the Breds? Why?

Unfortunately did not get to see them play this year except for the last half of the Danville game. IMO a trip to the state finals is at worst an A-/B+. The schedule that NCC continues to play is not going to make them look good early in most years. Perhaps they need to revisit who they schedule, but not really sure who they could add that would be much better than what they already have.

So is your grade an A- or a B+?

You make it to a state championship, you get an A. Simple.

I would give them a B+

A state final appearance and a strong playoff run. However, close games with Holy Cross and Lloyd along with some early ugly losses doesn't get them back to an A.

I give them an A, I give them extra Credit for the schedule they play and the run they made in the playoffs. My grades aren't entirely based on Wins and Losses.

A-

Some of the teams they played deserve to be graded on a 5 point scale instead of 4 point. (like AP classes)

Just reviewed their performance and got to take my hat off to the Breds! They scheduled tough and it got them ready for the deep run in the playoffs where they lost 17-7 to the mighty Mayfield in Championship game. Narrow victories against Lloyd and Holy Cross mid season were reversed with resounding playoff victories against the same two teams a month later. Scheduled up against 4A Scott that finished 10-3. Way up against very good 6A playoff teams Cooper and Conner, and against 3A state champions Belfry. Only embarrassing loss was to 1A runner-up Beechwood and that late season loss makes me downgrade their season to a B+. Otherwise, I would have given them a resounding A.

You consider losing to Beechwood embarrassing?

not embarrassing, but a 17 point loss to a rival that late in the season does hurt a bit

Not at all! Saw the game and thought BW completely dominated the Breds. Surprised me to say the least. Glad to see them regroup and finish the season so strong.
