Bengals parting ways with A.J. Hawk

Featured Replies

Same thing basically except he wasn't under contract. Really AJ wasn't either with it not being guaranteed. They basically gave up rights for him to play for them at that salary. He will probably be around to pick up in case of injuries, just like Crocker was.

Different, I know, but they are doing the same thing with him IMO.

Good point. I wouldn't be surprised if he asked for his release. He probably realized he was not making the team this year and would rather be cut now rather than during training camp.

Nothing against the man, but I never thought Hawk was anything but a merely serviceable LB while he was at Green Bay. I think the Packers' linebacking corps got appreciably beter once he left.

He didn't get many snaps last year so you'd have to think Dansby will get Hawks snaps. Based on the numbers, Dansby didn't exactly kill it in coverage. He's been slipping every year.

Hmmm where are you getting your info. I am pretty sure Dansby ranked as the sixth best linebacker in coverage in the nfl last year. In comparison Vinny Rey who lead the Bengals in snaps played last year ranked 84th in the nfl in coverage and he is better than Hawk was in coverage. So no idea what numbers you are referring to. The Bengals just added a top 10 linebacker in terms of coverage ability. That is a big step up from Hawk in that area.

If you are going to play 24% of the snaps you better be able to play special teams. Hawk only played 14% on ST.

#'s I saw had Dansby ranked highly several years ago but dropping over the past couple of seasons.

You may have saw the numbers wrong or may want to recheck it. He was rated the 6th best in the league last year in coverage out of all the linebackers in the nfl.

And that made Cleveland so much better.

Youre comparing a team with no pieces and many holes to a team with not many needs. So Dansby doing that in Cincinnati would help the 2nd best scoring defense in the nfl be even better. Shoot the Bengals defense was one of the only defenses to slow your Steelers offense down last year and they did it twice. Now they also have a linebacker who can cover. Nice try though, maybe one day you will get good at this.

Will see if he can stop Green.

True a talented guy in Green who could never beat out old man Gates who played two bad legs for last few years. So you all have to take someone backup TE. Sounds like something to be worried about.

No worries here. No Tez will have you all crying.

You better hope so. If you all can't beat them without Tez then you won't with him.
