No argument there. I think going to the Spurs would be even weaker than going to GS. I think he stays but if he goes somewhere other than those 3 teams I posted then he is stupid.

Going to the Spurs is like going to the Lakers of old. Great organization, great coach, always gonna be a contender. It's become THAT team in the NBA, if you exclude the media market. They have Kawhai and Aldridge and a bunch of old guys. Even if they're the champs, the roster would be vastly different for much of Durant's tenure. That would give them a Big 3.

 

Going to an already historically great GS team would be unprecedented. It would be similar to Barkley joining the Bulls after the 96 season or Jordan going to the showtime Lakers during the mid-80s.

 

On top of that I think GS is a horrible fit for Durant and I think Durant is a horrible fit for the Warriors. Golden State is the anti-ISO ball, which is what KD has stated that his game revolves around. Outside of Curry, I think the sum is greater than the individual parts for Golden State. Take away the team's style of play and the effectiveness of Green and Thompson are lessened. Still great players, but not the unguardable monsters they currently are.

 

For it to work, KD would have to change. Does he really want to become an off the ball cutter and spot up guy? Does he want to go from the anti-LeBron, to some perceptually far worse? Not only would he be joining a super team instead of creating one, but he would have failed with the kind of teammates (Westbrook, Harden, Ibaka) that LeBron would have killed for in Cleveland in his first go around.

 

If I'm KD, I go to the Spurs. Same benefits, better fit, little to no heat for signing there. If I'm Westbrook and KD goes elsewhere like GS, I run to the Spurs next year.
