Syrian Refugees to resettle in Bowling Green

A lot of good information in that article. I'm happy to see my hometown looking out for the refugees.

This is something I can get behind. A proper screening and integrating the refugees into society. Help them assimilate and such. Much better handling than those imbeciles over in Europe.

There are Syrian refugees being resettled right in my neighborhood. For the most part, the neighbors around here have all been rallying around them. One gentleman kindly collected donations of every sort at his home and stored them in his garage until the family arrived. It's been really heartwarming to see the neighborhood come together. Not that it hasn't been without (very vocal) detractors. But those of us interested on helping keep on keepin' on and the family I met are grateful to the point of tears.

I also would like to say, the info in the article regarding the process for refugees is not new. I have had experience with Catholic Charities efforts from the time I was 16. I wish more people would either become involved, or become educated, about the process for refugees to be granted refuge in the US, and what happens once they arrive. It's far different from what is portrayed by those who object.

Oh, trust me @rockmom I know. I have always touted our system and charitable work as superior to other nations. We do something others don't. We actually INTEGRATE them. We actually have a waiting process to allow for proper screening. You are 100% correct. If others knew about how the US goes through the process of screening refugees, more people would come around.

I think if more people read full articles instead of just headlines they would see that. I've read many articles detailing the process and providing stats and updates of integrated refugees. Some people see "refugees of middle eastern descent" in a headline and automatically assume they are all in ISIS or something.

Sad that this needs to be in the CI forum.

Did anyone see that the Vatican is taking in three Muslim refugee families?

^ Question. Were these refugees coming to the U.S.?

Does it matter what country. Do you really think we're going to be different. They hate us the most. You can't be that naive. They want to take over not assimilate. Name one country that has not had violent issue with refugees so far.

^ I take that as a "no".

Australia, are the refugees coming here different? Can you expand on your question?

My main question would be this - did the refugees that are in Australia in the article you cited undergo the same vetting process as those in Bowling Green?

I would think that there are several potential differences between the Australian refugees and the Bowling Green refugees.

Someone needs to help Trump out with this information. Today he guaranteed an attack on the US by refugees. Of course, all it takes is one and he can say he is right. In fact, he might already be claiming he is right because of the attack in San Francisco or even the Boston marathon.
