It's 1A Football in KY, Dayton will be fine, it goes in cycles. Finishing with less than 20 is really not that uncommon, probably happens more times than not for over half of the class. Take away your Beechwood's and Pikeville's of the world and I would say the average number of players on most 1A school's roster is somewhere between 25-30 at the beginning of the season, throw in a few guys that quit and some injuries and it is easy to end up with less than 20 by playoff time.

That has not been my experience with 1A football in the state. I have seen some small teams in the post season in round one and two, but for most part the teams I have seen have been in the 35-65 range.

Quick follow up. My "source" tells me that 45 kids are signed up to play. Most that I have seen in the past 4 years. Of course if form holds true they will be in the mid 20s by end of season, which is still better than past years.

I'm hoping so. That's the number that I heard last night too. I'm hearing things are looking much better, the season can't start soon enough. If the varsity team picks up the majority of players coming up in the future from the youth teams, things will definitely be better.

I'd say that's the highest number since Coach Lickert or the year after he left.

Lots to feel good about from green/white scrimmage friday night. Some actual depth in the backfield and overall intensity that hasn't been seen around here in years. Needing the season to start ASAP.

I never, ever, ever thought I would live to see Dayton have more football players on the roster than my Holmes Bulldogs. Good for Dayton. Glad to see kids are coming out for football.
