Seth Chinn should be a nice returning player, he will be a jr I believe.

Coach Montgomery has a tough job with low numbers but is doing a nice job with the Devils.

Merge with bellevue. Nothing against once neighbor to the east. But it would be good for both school

Not going to happen so lose that thought. I agree though it would be a much better situation.

Don't know the enrollments. If they combined would they still be 1a?

In the dream world, which I agree with Q will never happen, do you add Newport into that merger?

but back to the thread, who does Dayton have returning?

State may force that issue for academic reasons.

State may force that issue for academic reasons.

Why???

As posted above, Seth Chinn is a solid returning junior. Can play qb/ or rb. Xavier Hundermer is another returning junior back who had a solid year last year. They have several seniors that have been starters since their freshman years, including Carl Matthews who will, barring injury set a school record for tackles. He will also help open holes as fullback for Seth and Xavier. Buddy Lukens and Derek Norman, both senior, provide good size and experience on the O and D lines. I have heard of a possible transfer, as well as few new kids playing this year, that should be able to help, but I won't hold my breath. Also, about 15-20 kids have been in the weight room all off season, working hard. That makes about 80 percent of the team, which will hopefully be about 27-8 kids.

As usual, however, numbers is a killer for Dayton. By the end of last season, they were dressing about 15. Lack of overall speed also hurts tremendously. But who knows?

The state can't force schools to merge. If they could, Silver Grove would have been gone a long time ago.

Thanks for the update! Good luck to the Devils this year. Growing up in Dayton and taking a couple of snaps for the Blackjacks on Davis field always makes me root for the boys in green.

What? Since when can the state force schools to merge?

If a school is in danger of losing or loses it's accreditation due to academic and or financial reasons, or if the city gets into serious financial trouble, the state could step in and "make a recommendation." However, neither school or city is anywhre close to the point where the state could make that happen.

But I wouldn't be surprised if a city recommended at merger

Didn't Dayton just announce some decent building renovations?

That doesn't sound like financial issues.
