April 3, 201610 yr While NATO is needed he does have some good points. If nothing else Trump has brought out alot of problem areas that need to be fixed.
April 3, 201610 yr NATO serves a purpose, but it is badly in need of an overhaul for the terrorism of the 21st Century.
April 3, 201610 yr http://flip.it/M9h52 This is cool. He also guaranteed you'd vote for him in Noevember.
April 3, 201610 yr Author NATO serves a purpose, but it is badly in need of an overhaul for the terrorism of the 21st Century. I agree with this.
April 3, 201610 yr Yes reform is needed, more consensus building and accountability is key. Divorcing NATO is all together foolish. Drumpf needs to learn how to play nice with critics and others. Him being so easily offended only substantiates Americas current culture of entitlement and lack of dialogue, work, and understanding! Time to get back to learning with others via regular dialogue, sharing ideas and intelligence. "Team Building" while shaping the current geo-political landscape to preserve freedoms. Isolationism is not the answer!
April 3, 201610 yr Maybe threatening to take American Toys (and Money) and go home will get NATO's attention that this isn't just something the US has to pay for. The rest of Europe needs to change or adapt NATO or they can do it without the US Purse Strings. There are many ways to negotiate, this is just a different style than we are used to with politicians. If the other NATO countries know at the end of the day that we could leave NATO it may make them more receptive to negotiating in good faith.
April 4, 201610 yr Author It's a fool's bargain though. We back out and they sign non-aggression pacts with Putin the next day. This isn't the bargaining table on the Apprentice. These are sovereign nations who are worried about the safety of their people. In this day they will not fight Russian expansion, and we will have lost a continent of allies. But sure nothing to worry about. Big Donald will strike a deal.
April 4, 201610 yr Yeah, because the only experience Trump has is on a reality TV show. The US currently foots the bill for around 73% of NATO, maybe the countries directly threatened by the old WARSAW Pact should pay a little more for their own protection. IMO there is no way the US leaves NATO, but you can't take that option off of the table if you want a true negotiation. Just like I can't negotiate with the local car dealer unless I'm willing to walk off the lot and not buy.
April 4, 201610 yr NATO (UK and France) helped get us into Libya. If the threat of all out invasion from Russia off the table, as Obama said it is, then NATO is outated model. Its a model that lead to WWI.
April 4, 201610 yr Author This world is upside-down. I never thought I would ever see repubs follow this line of thinking.
