Dunbar 61 Doss 52 (Sweet 16 Championship)

Featured Replies

I think the best team won and had to play the toughest route to do so.

Agreed.

Dunbar's path to the title had to be one of the toughest in tournament history.

Congrats to Dunbar...they were my pick for the tourney!

Ted Sanford Award:

Vincent Clark of Dunbar.

Is this an academic award?

You must not pay attention to these boards. Cole Von Handorff was named Mr. Basketball for 2017 in 2014.

Combination of academics, civic work, athletics and something else.

Thanks, PP92, figured you'd know!

Congratulations, Vince. Well, well, well-deserved!

Vince is one of the state's best students, no student-athlete qualifier needed, with 99th percentile on his college entrance exams and a top GPA, he has both ability and work ethic. Vince is choosing from among many top academic scholarship offers, I expect him to study engineering. Think I know where he's going and why but will let the family announce when they are ready. Quietly filled his role coming off the bench behind some of the best players in the state, he's a terrific player in his own right and was an integral part of the Charlotte Court 17U team that won the state AAU last summer.

Unquestionably a fine young man.

(Hey Ray - told ya so!)

Got to see Dunbar twice before the state tournament, both losses. One vs Trinity in louisville and once vs New Albany (Ind.) But I could see their talent. Hollingsworth really stepped up his game @ Rupp this week. Huge improvement from what I saw early in the yr. Let the hype for him winning the '17 Mr basketball begin.

Interesting side note; Dunbar wins the kentucky state title and New Albany plays for a state title on Saturday. The game in frankfort in early Jan. was possibly a matchup of the two state champions. I doubt that has happened recently (if ever)

That game between Dunbar and New Albany that was played earlier in the season, Dunbar was without Justin Kelley. You may not think that makes much of a difference but I assure you it does. I believe New Albany won by 8 points. Would loved to see the game with both teams at full strength. New Albany is REALLY REALLY REALLY good though. I would say either them or Bowling Green were the best team Dunbar played all year.
