Boone returns a real nice team. They have strong contributors both inside and outside. The key factor about their team is they have strong senior leadership mixed with young talent and a deep bench and they know they do NOT have any standout or "super" players.

 

nptwildcat...unless you traveled over the summer and watched them compete against the top teams in tri-state you are basing your observation on last season. The region will never be a cake walk for any team, but if they play well I like their chances on any given night.

 

I heard they will play LexCath in December so I guess we'll see if these kids can compete as well as if the LexCath kids can quickly adapt to a new coach with a new system. In either case it won't mean anything until March, right??

Boone will also travel to Tennessee over Christmas for their highly touted tournament. With the addition of Behrens it should be an exciting year for the Lady Rebels and hopefully another trip to Western.

Boone County isn't even a lock to win the 9th region they won't be able to compete with Lexington Catholic.

 

With the apparent transfer of Katie Behrens from Holy Cross to Boone Cty I would say they are a strong favorite to win the 9th and certainly make themselves a Top 10 or even a Top 5 team in the state.

I have seen LexCath and Boone play....and as much as I like and respect Coach Fookes, she hasn't the talent to beat LexCath. Remember, LexCath new coach is the former St. Henry coach, who just happened to beat the Boone County team in the district last year.

Maybe I didn't catch Boone County at their best the one time I saw them last year. They beat Mason County - a team that started three sophomores and whose 6th man was an 8th-grader - by one point. The same Mason County team that lost to LexCath by 95-56 and to Scott County by 81-50. Boone County needs a little more offense - scoring 26 points in the tourney isn't going to go too far - before folks start comparing them to Catholic.

If you were at the Mason County game then what you saw there was not basketball. Boone was up by 20 at the half but was called for something like 19 fouls in the second half to Mason Counties 4. On Boone's defense they started 2 freshman 2 Juniors and 1 Senior last year. The inexperience showed up real big in the State game. They will come along nicely this year if they can continue to play as a team. I can't say how they stack up against LC though only time will tell and the game they play against each other.

I wouldn't think about comparing them either. Boone has a long long way to go to be put in that category. Boone also had two freshman that were first off the bench along with two freshmen starters.

 

I cannot remember clearly, but didn't LC barely make it past SC in the regional finals? so it sounds like there is a chance they may not make it to Diddle this year either. What a great game this is.

Barely but remember, Scott County was the #2 team in the state. Them and LC was head and shoulders above everyone else. A good number of coaches will tell you that the state title was decided in that game.

Actually LBC that was the point I was trying to make but didn't do a very good job. No doubt that the winner of that game was more than likely going to win the state. Someone made the comment "there is no guarantee that Boone will make it next year", and I agreed, but also with SC in their region there is no guarantee that LC will be there either.

IMHO I believe that SK will make it to state this yr. ! LC will still be good but not as good as in the past. BC will be good and with their new transfer they will be hard to beat in the 9th. ND will be tough to beat as well in the 9th. BC is one of the very best in the state as far as having inside play as well as a great point guard!! From what i hear the only reason Coach Fookes is coaching now is to try and win the title with this group over the next couple of yrs. I hope she gets it! LCA will be tough as well, but are in with some very tough teams!! Just an opinion

Last year's state champion was decided when LexCath beat Scott County in the 11th Region finals. I don't think anyone could reasonably disagree with that. Mercy was also a fine team that, unfortunately for them, drew LexCath in the first round of the state tournament. The other fourteen teams in the tournament, with a couple of exceptions, were on pretty much the same level.

 

As it turned out, Rose Hill survived to reach the finals. Our Lady Royals finished second in the state tournament and placed three on the all-tournament team- two of whom return this year. We would never try to fool ourselves, or anyone else, by saying that Rose Hill was the second best team overall. However, when it counted, our girls finished second. Our little high school of 63 takes great pride in that.

It don't take a genious to pick LC to win another title. It will be interesting to see how the players respond to a new coach. I don't think the players and their talent are in doubt but how will the new coach do w/the pressure of the entire state on his shoulders to repeat w/the talent he has been given.

 

The next two seasons, IMO, are still Greg Todd's teams. Scott Co could pull the upset.
