West Virginia Passes Constitutional Carry

Featured Replies

The West Virginia joins Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Kansas, Maine, Vermont and Wyoming as states that require no permit for those legally allowed to own a gun to carry a firearm open or concealed. Do you agree with this or do you see problems. Below is a guy's You Tube account which is usually him trying to be funny (hence trying) but this time talks seriously about the topic where he brings up good points.

Could Constitutional Carry some day come to KY?

I think permits are a money grab and a security blanket in the event you ever are involved in a shooting in self defense. However, there is some measure of training involved. So, not sure how I feel about it.

I'd vote for it. In my opinion, the government has no reason to know if I have a gun or not. Carry permits give them a good idea that I may and no doubt the list of those permitted is being monitored and retained by more than just the local Sherrif's office and the State of Kentucky.

I'm a huge gun advocate, and if they do away with the permits, then I pray that there's some sort of prerequisite training required to purchase a handgun.

I have mixed feeling of prerequisites for hand gun purchases. I don't want a woman with a stalker to have to wait a day longer if she feels her stalker will ignore his restraining order. Also, someone in a poor neighborhood, that $200 for the Taraus or Kel Tec may be all he can come up with, the nickel and diming of the permit process may simply be too much.

Even as minimal as the training may seem to some, I still think it is necessary if you want to conceal.

I don't like the idea of not having to have a permit.

What difference does it make if they know? If you buy a gun legally, they know anyway. A permit doesn't change that.

If one day matters then she can go visit relatives. I'd doubt that scenario plays out much. I think the average gun owner is less than what I'd prefer someone be adept at handling a sidearm.

Not true. I can legally purchase a gun from any other Kentucky resident who is legally allowed to own one. No paperwork, no record of sale.

I also do not have to do any paperwork or have any records for the firearms I have sold in state, to other Kentucky residents who are legally allowed to own them. I have no firearms left in my collection that have been purchased by me at retail.

Ok, I was exaggerating on the one day part but from the time I booked my concealed carry class to actually getting my permit was over 100 days. Government is not efficient enough to shrink that down to an acceptable level.

I will just remain speechless because I am on this.

I used to think a permit magically made us safer as a society until I realized those who don't qualify for a permit did not qualify because they break the law so I really don't see how the law saying they need a permit will do much good when they don't seem to follow laws in the first place.

To a large degree, permit do nothing more than penalize law abiders financially and time wise.

No problem with it and all states should be like this.

Why do we need a permit to conceal carry but no permit for open carry?
