Bengals Re-Sign Brandon Tate

Featured Replies

Bengals have just announced they have re-signed Brandon Tate.

Thoughts?

Super Bowl, baby!

Meh...

Eh smart to sign him back for insurance for a returner. However hopefully this doesn't mean he automatically makes the team again, and they truly look for a better full time returner than him.

Worst resigning ever again. :D

Just finished having this exact debate with a friend off BGP.

If I am the Bengals, Tate can return, he can play WR in a pinch, he is a good teammate, he doesn't turn the ball over and with Pacman, Jones, and Sanu all probably gone it was very smart insurance policy.

However, the real point here is what fc just mentioned, this signing has to be insurance meaning it won't have any influence on what the Bengals do in FA and the Draft in regards to the return game and WR depth.

I really would like to see Alford get looks in the return game this year.

From Bengals.com on the Tate signing:

It is expected that Tate is competing with last year’s seventh-round pick, wide receiver Mario Alford, to return punts and kicks, but he gives them a proven veteran who makes few mistakes in the return game.

Unless you consider it a mistake to return a punt negative 2 yards or take a kickoff 5 yards deep in the endzone and return it 20 yards to the 15.

I fear this signing means Pac Man is gone.

It doesn't matter who returns they either call for a fair catch inside the 10 yardline or run a kick out of the endzone.

I hope Tate is the backup too. Or even better, we draft so well and/or someone like Alford steps up and we move on from Tate.

I think Pacman was already gone and this signing was insurance.
