McGregor should be thankful that dosAngos had to back out of the fight. He would have whooped his butt worse than Diaz did.

McGregor was wearing Nates face out. He got caught and couldn't recover. Diaz has great stand up skills and McGregor was working him. dosAngos may beat Conner but I sure wouldn't bet on it.

I definitely respect McGregor for trying to step up in class. He was wearing Nicks face out for a round but the only difference is that he didn't go down like his other opponents. Nick showed him that he cannot contend in the heavier weight class. Could you imagine what Robbie Lawler would do to McGregors face. Now that the UFC has done away with IV's to recover quicker from weight cut we shall see how he does when gets back to his weight class. I know he stepped up but I was not too impressed with his chin when Nick started landing and non-existent ground game. I think he got a little exposed like Rousey did. Again I really give him props for stepping up.

My brother, who trains out at El Ninos, said that he thinks about 180. He was in the middle of training for a triathlon with his brother, so it is really tough to say. When he isn't in camp he's preparing for marathons and things like that.

I also think it wouldn't effect his chin. Because he would have time to prepare with a full camp, he would be much sharper defensively and offensively in the first round, better able to avoid some of Connor's strikes and more likely to connect early and more often. I think Diaz would have an easier time of it.

 

One bad thing for Diaz, he has been fighting for so long he has a lot of scar tissue on his face and he bleeds pretty easily.

He felt McGregor had been given every advantage to succeed by the UFC and had a relatively easy path to big pay days. Nick was not going to let this opportunity slip away. He was determined to show the Irishman that he didn't belong in the ring with him. This was personal for Diaz, not necessarily toward Connor, but personal in that he felt he had earned this opportunity a long time ago and he was going to prove that as a fighter, he deserved more respect from the UFC. McGregor's rhetoric is fun and impressive to some, it may get under the skin of other fighters and make them lose their head a bit in the fight, but for Diaz, he knew the rhetoric meant nothing. And as you mentioned, an underrated point in all of this is the scar tissue on Diaz eye brow. He cuts so easily and bleeds in almost every fight, so all the people talking about all the damage Connor did seems to forget this point. As far as handling the shots, Nick didn't seem rattled the entire fight, McGregor landed some solid shots but none of them put Nick in danger. AND, as far as Nick goes, the damage looked a lot worst than it actually was (although McGregor did land a few nice shots).
