I would be curious to hear the official's reasoning for the foul in the drive. It wasn't up top.

Blind draws must go away. Why even play a regular season?

The 54th is the only district in the 14th that uses a blind draw now that the 55th voted this year to start seeding.

This situation has happened too many times in that district where the top two teams draw one another in the first game. And many times the top two teams from the 54th are also the top two teams in the region. It happened several times back in the days before consolidation when MC Napier and Hazard had talented teams, but Leslie County, Dilce Combs, and Buckhorn have also had good teams over the years.

 

A little trivia info in Buckhorn's case, their good teams have been since 1988 when they won their first regional championship. Remarkably, that '88 championship for Buckhorn was not only their first regional title but was also the first time the school had ever earned a trip to play in the region. They won the region again in 1989. I think the school has been in existence since the early 1920s so that was a long stretch without playing in the region. Nowadays they seem to be a factor in the region every year. Seems to me their emergence as one of the region's top teams began with the construction on their new gym in the late 1980s. Before that time many of the players from the Chavies area, who have the choice to go to either Buckhorn or Perry Central (and MC Napier before) usually decided on PCC. Now Buckhorn gets their share of players from that community. They've done well for a school of 200 students.

 

So the blind draw has really knocked a good team from that district out of region play several times over the years. Maybe it's time for the KHSAA to step in and vote that all districts are required to seed.

If you guys can't see Johnson fouling Blair all the way to the goal you are blind. They may have called it on #2 but Dexter was pointing at #11 who is Johnson. Either way it's a 2 shot foul because they were in a double bonus. Johnson fouled him on the shot also with a push.

I must be blind because I don't see the what Paparazzi is seeing. I see a ref's hand go up with a call at the moment of the shot attempt, not before. The ref's decision wasn't based on the drive to the basket.

Terrible call. You let that go and send the game to OT so the players can determine a winner.

I agree. Two Hazard players went up to block Blair's shot and Blair wasn't touched, and his momentum carried him out of bounds toward the TV camera. What happened was one of the Hazard players knocked the other Hazard player sideways on their joint attempt to stop Blair's shot. On the replay the tv guy said the only foul was Hazard fouling Hazard, which as we know doesn't count as a foul.

 

Regardless, Blair went to the line and hit 1 of 2 to win the game.

Great overtime game but one hates to see a game decided that way.

 

You can say no foul if you want but #11 Johnson has his hand clearly on the center of blairs back and pushed him. That's a foul and Dexter called the foul on Johnson. It was not on Frazier. Dexter called the foul for a push on Johnson.

1. Absolutely NO contact on the drive. No idea what you are seeing.

2. It looks like they called it on 11. Is that correct?

3. There was no foul up top which is why I asked what signal the official gave. I can see maybe him saying #11 got him with a foul from behind with his forearm in the back. MAYBE. It looked to me to be a "play on" but that's easy for me to say watching a replay.

Wow! Bad call. Hate to see a team lose like that. The blind draw has to go. No point in having district regular season games.

In defense of the guy who made the call, he has been officiating games since 1975 and has a reputation as an honest referee and a very good one. I always liked to see him assigned to our games. Super nice fellow. He would never do anything intentionally to decide a ball game imo. He simply made a call that he possibly might have anticipated beforehand and it's a bang bang play that's easy to dissect in slow motion on a TV replay but he has to make a decision in real game speed.

The official is a very honest guy. He called the foul because of Johnson who is #11 pushed him on the shot. Johnsons hand is on the lower back of Blair. Sure it could have been overlooked but he felt it was a foul. That's what he called the foul for. A push in the back on the shot.

Terrible. I like PCC but this was a ridiculous call
