Probably a good move for SC. They need to try and generate some wins and get some excitement back in the program. Hard to do that when Belfry, Pikeville, and Lawrence on the slate.

 

Hope McCoy can turn it around. Will be a tough task. Hager left that place in a real tough spot by not working the youth programs like he should have.

 

Now I know with the decline in population and employment opportunities it would have been a struggle regardless, but it should not have been as bad as it was and that rests on Hager IMO.

 

Upon further review I think dropping this year is just step one. With the knowledge that Floyd Central should be joining 3A district 6 in 2017 I would not be surprised if SC submits a request to join 2A district 8 beginning in 2017.

I am hearing Paintsville needs a Week 0 game.

 

This would be a solid one year deal and to me more beneficial than a scrimmage with South Point again.

Would be interesting to see what games they dropped. I know Pikeville + their district slate, but I'm sure they kept teams like Betsy Layne and McCreary Central. It will be nearly impossible to find that many open dates in the middle of a cycle.

Since Belfry and Pikeville play each other, that may allow them to move their game to Week 8 and they will both find it easier to find another opponent in Week 4, which is in the non-district part of the scheduling grid.

 

Pikeville and Belfry shouldn't play that late in the year. It's too far in the year to have a kid or key players hurt in a bragging rights game. If something happens early in the then they got time to heal. I myself hate to see these teams hurt there chances at a repeat. ( I'm a Hazard and Perry Central fan)

So have they dropped their entire scheduled and started over? Does the winner of District 5 get a bye week or does the 5th place team from D5 (which has 6 teams vs 3 now on D6) play in the 4 slot and play the D5 winner?

 

On a side note had the KHSAA placed Russell in district 6 and had evened out districts 3A D5 and D6 at 5 teams each vs 6 and 4 this would be a mute point.

Russell won't be moving. It isn't common (has it ever happened) to see teams moved from one district to another within the class during an alignment cycle.
