Did Sheldon Clark drop out of district play?

Featured Replies

Belfry has posted an opening for Week 8 in 2016. That week was played against Sheldon Clark last season. Has Sheldon Clark dropped out of district play?

Would make sense.

Sheldon Clark is going through tough times and with McCoy being hired he may be seeking a clean slate to hit the restart button.

Yes Sheldon Clark has dropped out of district play for 2016.

That leaves a Week 8 game open for the Pirates which they probably won't be able to fill because that is a district week on the scheduling grid.

Belfry still only has one scrimmage so maybe if they can't find a game for Week 8 they can get a Week 0 game.

Maybe I am in the minority on this, but I dont understand why teams drop from district play.

Having to buy out of contracts for those games could sink a team financially (I know it would for the program I was over as it would have totaled 15k.

I cant get my head around how this would do any good for a team.

So have they dropped their entire scheduled and started over? Does the winner of District 5 get a bye week or does the 5th place team from D5 (which has 6 teams vs 3 now on D6) play in the 4 slot and play the D5 winner?

On a side note had the KHSAA placed Russell in district 6 and had evened out districts 3A D5 and D6 at 5 teams each vs 6 and 4 this would be a mute point.

Pikeville is also looking to replace their Sheldon Clark game on the schedule, so I'm guessing Sheldon Clark has completely blown up their previous year's schedule (or at least got rid of the two schools that won state titles).

Probably a good move for SC. They need to try and generate some wins and get some excitement back in the program. Hard to do that when Belfry, Pikeville, and Lawrence on the slate.

Hope McCoy can turn it around. Will be a tough task. Hager left that place in a real tough spot by not working the youth programs like he should have.

Now I know with the decline in population and employment opportunities it would have been a struggle regardless, but it should not have been as bad as it was and that rests on Hager IMO.

Guess the District 5 winner will get a first round bye in the playoffs.

Or will they possibly give one of District 7's non qualifying teams that 4th place spot in D5?

Since Belfry and Pikeville play each other, that may allow them to move their game to Week 8 and they will both find it easier to find another opponent in Week 4, which is in the non-district part of the scheduling grid.

This also means at least Pike Central and Lawrence County will be looking for a game.

Unless Sheldon Clark kept those two games as non-district. Neither coach has posted an open date, yet.

Would that be desirable? Have Belfry and Pikeville ever played that late in the season? Might not matter, if that's what makes scheduling easier.

Going to be a tough one to fill.

Literally the one week when everyone seems to be playing a District Game.

I know Haywood values his two scrimmage format but he may have to make a concession this year due to circumstances.

The South Point (OH) Scrimmage I would think will not be nearly as valuable as playing a more quality team in Week 0 or being stuck playing a 9 game schedule with only 3 Home Games. That is the exposure you potentially face for keeping the second scrimmage and not finding some Out of State team to come in on Week 8

The only other option I can think of is to see if Lawrence County and Pike Central will do Belfry a solid to help out.

A Sheldon Clark vs. Pike Central or Lawrence game both could make sense this upcoming season.. Pike Central only beat SC by 7 and Lawrence is a natural rivalry game.

Those teams all played their District Games the three weeks between Week 7 and Week 9.

If Pike Central and Lawrence both agreed to keep Sheldon Clark on their schedule as a Non-District Game, this could allow Belfry to adjust the District Schedule and thus open up Week 7 instead of Week 8. Still not ideal..but there are more non-District games in Week 7 to choose from.

Looking at last year:

Off hand I see Casey County playing Ross, OH that sticks out.

Maybe Belfry could broker a deal to swap opponents. Belfry takes on Ross and Casey County plays Sheldon Clark.

I like this the best... that would definitely give the most flexibility for both teams to fill the void

I forgot to say, Pikeville plays Phelps in week 8 and Phelps is not competing in that district either, right?

If Phelps intends to remain in district play that may be off the table.
