I can't wrap my mind around that either. Sliding into base seems like it would take a big adjustment. I'm sure this is a proven product, it just doesn't "feel" right somehow at first glance.
This field looks great and should be one of the best high school fields, in any state. Nees and I have been discussing this and here's what I mentioned.

Actually, sliding on it's very easy on the knee, especially with the pop-up slides.

The blades of synthetic grass are longer, with crushed rubber pellets or sand, which act as a cushion better than hardened/baked clay does.

It's very expensive to install over an entire Baseball field, I would estimate around $2.5-$3 mil or more, but the visual is awesome, cuts back on maintenance and virtually eliminates rainouts....unless lightening.

Strike, I don't think it costs nearly what you guessed. From teams that have installed it around the state, I thought the number for a football field was around $1 million. A baseball field has a little more area than a football field, but I can't imagine it costing $2.5 to cover a diamond.

That baseball field looks sweet. However, I do not like the infield dirt being turf. That doesn't make any sense to me.

UL has the same setup on their field. I know someone on the team last year, and was given a tour of all of the new baseball facilites, They have spent a lot of money recently and have top notch equipment. I believe their next project (probably under construction now) is an inboor hitting facility which they are calling the "Hit Shack".

Sounds like an amazing complex

My estimates include Architects and Engineering designs, permits, site work and grade, drainage and piping, aggregate, irrigation, dugout construction, lighting, fencing, contractors and prevailing wages, etc....

Each job cost varies.

It's going to look great. I bet it would be nice to play on their "own" field. Trinity's is not to shabby either.

It's tough, but we manage to get by.

I don't know how successful this will be, but here is a shot of the new baseball field from left center towards home plate. You can see the press box, dugout and lighting poles already up. The warning track is the brown artifical turf mentioned previously.

It looks like someone went wandering back through the cementary this morning after team photos and party.

I was just paying my respects.

I was just paying my respects.

William Watts is the closest to the field. Ol" Billy Watts from 1938 is watching from above!!

Did X get new uniforms this year? If so, what do they look like?

A photo would also be great!
