98NCCalum Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Looking to take my wife on a surprise getaway for a weekend here in the next couple weeks. I've never been so I have no idea what part to go to, etc. I'd like a cabin or chalet up in the woods. Something nice but nothing too ridiculous. Does anyone have a Gatlinburg hookup or at least a push in the right direction? I obviously did a search but there are a million websites to pick from and not knowing even what part to go to I'm sort of lost. Any help would be appreciated.
Run To State Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 I've always used Chalet Village, VRBO or Mountain Rentals of Gatlinburg. My favorite area to stay is off of Ski Mountain Hwy in Gatlinburg.
Content1 Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Be sure to get a jacuzzi outside with a skyview...

You can see 3/4 of the Milky Way from down there. Get up in the mtns away from town whatever you do. Have fun and safe travels! :thumb:

Run To State Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 I meant to say Ski Mountain road, not hwy. Great area, great views, close to downtown Gatlinburg, close to the park entrance and you can take the bypass to Pigeon Forge if it's crowded in Gatlinburg. You can also drive to the top of Ski Mountain and go to Ober Gatlinburg.

Wireman Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Visit the distilleries on the main strip in Gatlinburg. Can you say "free samples"? Also, look up The Mountain Lodge Restaurant for breakfast. It's off the beaten path. I would almost drive to Gatlinburg just to eat breakfast there.

This is the area we always stay in...be prepared for steep driveways depending on the location. Make sure your brakes are in good shape, newbies always come smoking off that hill with their brakes smoking :lol2:

Is this a decent area? 841 Mountain View Lodge | Gatlinburg Cabins | Chalet Village Cabin Rentals I've never stayed in that area, but I think they are all pretty nice. We have always stayed near Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort, pretty high up on the mountain. But this time of year you can get snowed in up there. So the area you are looking is probably a better bet.

Is this a decent area? 841 Mountain View Lodge | Gatlinburg Cabins | Chalet Village Cabin Rentals It's not a bad area, just not as quick to get to and from as some others. I would think you might want something with a nice view of Mt Leconte, just a thought.

That's pretty high and a winding road pretty much like Ski Mountain.
