One of my best friends in high school was in school with them (he was a couple years behind) in London around 1970 or so.

I never knew that the band "America" was from "England" until now.

Ahh...after further investigation it looks as if only 1 of the 3 guys was born in England. They first met as sons of U.S. Air Force personnel stationed in London according to Wiki.

My friend was probably one out of a handful of smartest people I've ever known. Math wizard that would take over if the advanced math teacher got in a bind. Went to NSA as a "codebreaker" right out of college.

 

His name was Mike. Three other "Mikes" from our graduating class were in that same precocious group. One is the chair of Biblical and Theological Studies at St. Mary's Seminary/University (Baltimore). One is a former press secretary for a former Governor of Maryland. The other was a musical prodigy who studied piano at Peabody Institute (Johns Hopkins) from almost the time he could walk.

 

I always felt a little overwhelmed by that particular group of friends.

Damn, you must be older than I thought (jk) to have this played at your wedding. If I recall it was a big wedding song in the early 70's. Not gonna believe for one minute that you were married in the early 70's. Maybe the early 80's?

 

Did you have a band or a DJ?

 

My older sister also had this as her wedding song back when it was still the trend to have a band. Does anybody ever have a band anymore at their wedding?

 

I was 8 at the time and recall being mostly excited about her wedding simply because she was having a real live band at her reception.

 

I still remember that they were a local cover band named "Blue" but to me, right in my face, they were the best band on earth. My ears heard every song that night as if it were being played by the original artist.

 

We were married in 1983, my wife and I both loved the song so it was an easy choice for us. Yes, we had a live band, they we're a local band from Cincy, but for the life of me I can't remember their name but they were quite good. Had everyone dancing all night! Color My World wasn't in their repertoire, but they were really accommodating and played a recording of it for our dance. Seems like only yesterday. I always liked live bands over DJs.
