I ate it once it was fine. May not have tried it after seeing one of those critters though.

Goetta isn't even in the same universe as Scrapple. I've got family coming in for Easter, and they will have several pounds of scrapple with them to get me through the next couple months.

One thing I've experienced south of NKY is "meat and three." Never heard of such an offering in NKY or Cincinnati.

I don't hate Goetta. And I'll eat it if it's served to me. But I won't go out of my way to eat it, and I'll probably never buy any. I've had many people in this area tell me that Scrapple and Goetta are almost the same thing and taste similar. They may sort of look similar, but that's where any similarity for me ends.

I've gotten that a few times, myself. I can think of a few spots in Tennessee and another couple in North Carolina....but I'd never put much thought to that being a "southern" thing. You may very well be right about that, though.

Agreed! You should give that a try with Glier's hot goetta sometime...

I guess the doughball puffy dumplings are something in the Midwest. My mom's from Iowa and that's how she always made it. Never had the thick noodle-style dumplings until I was in my 20s. It wasn't something that my dad's mother made.

I do miss my grandma's mock turtle soup.
