There's a huge difference between Meyer and Saban. Urban is a heck of a coach, but until he starts building men and charactor the way Saban does he will not achieve the dynasty.

 

I've heard interview's from too many former Player's of his that talk about the lack of discipline and behind the scenes stuff that goes on. Granted most of those are Florida and not Ohio State, there does seem to be more discipline at OSU.

 

Personally I would take Swinney over Meyer if I was hiring. I think he does everything the right way. Much like Saban.

Not only do I think he should be on this list but high on it!

 

Freeze began as a high school assistant, then HS head coach before moving to the college ranks as a assistant. His first college head coaching job was at NAIA Lambuth in Jackson, TN. His first D-1 job came 2 years later at Arkansas State followed by Ole Miss. As a head coach in D-1 he has been to a bowl all 5 years and has taken Ole Miss from a dark place in the cellar of the SEC to a major contender. Had it not been for the freak lateral to end the Arkansas game this year Ole Miss would have been SEC West champs rather than Bama. Freeze also once again has a top 5 recruiting class

I think the difference between Meyer and Saban is razor thin. After having read his book above the line and comparing it to the difference in the police blotter at OSU compared to Florida I truly believe he has changed for the better. And he has 3 rings and a Juggernaut recruiting class coming in at OSU.

I'm so biased against Harbaugh. His 'I'm better than you and there's nothing you can do about it' attitude makes me hate him to the core.

Completely agree. Saban rebuilt, in order, Michigan State, LSU, and Alabama. He has shown able to build teams through more than one or two graduating classes. His program is a Juggernaut.

 

On the flip side, IN GAME, I take Meyer. Saban still hasn't figured out the spread offense with an athletic QB and that is a head scratcher. For a man that smart, the first loss to Johnny Football should have had him all set with a Plan B.

I get that. You would have thought that he would have done something to bring in faster, smaller DLinemen to limit fatigue from setting in chasing screens, read/options and the like.

His scheme needs big bodies. I think his response to Spread QBs is to be more explosive on offense. You can game plan a running QB, or a passing QB, but guys that do both you just have to make enough plays on to win.

Just so we are talking apples to apples

The 4 schools Saban took over went 20-26 the year before he took over to 30 -17 in his first year. Thats +10 wins in 4 jobs.

Correct, and a lot of that has to do with Meyer being the best X's and O's guy around. He, however, has never stuck around long enough to "build" his program. He takes yours'ens and beats theirs'ens, recruits 2 to 3 really good classes, and takes off.

Saban did too until he got to Alabama. Meyer is younger, maybe OSU is his Alabama and he will stay a while. Like I said about his book it seems like he is a different coach now. I had Saban number 1. I'm just arguing the difference is razor thin and eerily similar only with Urban as an offense version of Saban.

We will see. Ohio is home, so you have a great chance of being correct. Like I said, X's and O's he really doesn't have a peer. It is just a matter of maintaining greatness at a program, IMO.
