Augusta 60 St. Patrick 51 (10th Region Class A)

Featured Replies

A tale of two halves. Augusta came ready to play and was up by as many as 26 or 28. Lots of bench players got minutes. Then Panthers got very sloppy (over confident?) in 3rd and Saints came back hard getting score as close as 7 late in 4th. Never could get back on the gas pedal and it appeared Coach Kirk has lots of learning opportunities for the boys before next round.

This Panther team can play with the big boys, only if they bring their A game. This was a C- effort the 2nd half. Hats off to Saints for never quitting or believing.

Unbelievable. Such a veteran team shouldn't have those types of issues. Better get them worked out before Wednesday.

Quite a piece of work this game was. I thought the boys came out as focused and fired up as they have been this season. Help side was there every time the ball went down low to Frey, he couldn't get anything accomplished. They trapped after the first pass multiple times causing turnovers. Had very active hands slapping balls away before shots could even begin to go up. All in all extremely impressive. Then came the second half. I think it was a combination of the confidence they picked up by leading by 25 and only giving up 14. They took their foot off the gas and the Saints, to their credit, took full advantage of the opportunity. I didn't feel like St. Patrick was going to win the game because it just took too long for them to make their comeback and time started to work against them. Plus, once the Panthers took a deep breath and started to control the ball like the can so well, the upset just wasn't going to happen. But again I give the Saints credit for hanging in there. Down 25 at the half it's difficult to believe you have a chance but little by little they keep clawing back. If we meet them in the district tournament and we don't play 32 minutes like we did the first 16 today, could be interesting. Finally, I don't have any worries about lack of focus come Wednesday night. This group has played in quite a few big games and they know how to win them. Paris or Bracken County will have their hands full.

As far as stats go, I'll post scoring, unless someone beats me to it, in about 90 minutes when I get home from work.

Gotta get up pretty early in the morning to get the jump on Randall B. Parker.:thumb:

Wow nice comeback. Down too much too early. Another 3-5 minutes could've been the difference maker. I see the Saints making something happen this season out of character. They've been on the road and been challenged quite of bit. They are tougher then people think. Solid front court scoring. Decent PG. they need a shooter to knock some shots down and they'll be competing for much more than people believe

Our leading scorer was held to 8 and we only lost by 9, he gets involved and it's a ballgame

I also see no made 3 pt baskets and a rough start to the game. 4-5 missed free throws... Basic stats

I'm thinking they are better Than people give them credit for. They just need to come out of the gates.
