Jesse James Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 Texas Gov. Greg Abbott calls for Constitutional Convention to take back states? rights | | Dallas Morning News What say ye?
mcpapa Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 I say what the last sentence in the article says. “I would find it fairly unlikely that this would get traction on the national level,” Henson said. “On the other hand, it’s not the first we’ve heard of this.”
mcpapa Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 The proposed amendment allowing states to ignore Supreme Court rulings is a hoot. Kinda takes me back to the good ol' desegregation days.
bballfamily Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 I would support a convention with a defined itemized list of potential amendments. One potential amendment for me would be term limits for Congress and Supreme Court Justices.
Bluegrasscard Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 No. It it will gut the Bill of Rights. Do not the idea at all.

bballfamily Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 LOVE THIS!!! If each state makes out it own list of potential amendments and the final list has to be agreed upon. Then each amendment has to be approved of at the convention and then still has to be ratified by 38 states, I doubt the Bill Of Rights would be gutted. In fact, I believe they would be enhanced. Meant to quote the post before yours.
Twotoplace Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 The proposed amendment allowing states to ignore Supreme Court rulings is a hoot. Kinda takes me back to the good ol' desegregation days. Texas is its own state of mind these days. Another doozy would "Give state officials the power to sue in federal court when federal officials overstep their bounds." Talk about an open-ended clause to potentially nullify anything and everything. I would guess these "oversteps" include voting rights guarantees, environmental regulations, birth control pills, same-sex marriage and wearing an Eagles jersey to a Dallas Cowboys game.
SportsGuy41017 Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 They could always just join back up with Mexico.
