Lawnboy13 Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 (edited) The Breds are very fortunate to hold on for the 1pt. victory tonight. http://bluegrasspreps.com/ky-girls-basketball/newport-central-catholic-320301.html NewCath up 32-21 with under 5:00 in the 3rd, then the Breds go the final 12:43 only scoring 8 points, none the final 3:25 of the game. With 1:58 remaining, and a Breds 40-38 lead, NewCath goes into a stall-ball passing game with results in a turnover at the 1:10 mark. The Camels, Holly Schwarber, is fouled with 1:01 left and hits 1/2 FT's. The Breds again play stall-ball and turn it over with :39.3. The Camels proceed to do the same stall-ball and call a timeout with :11.2 remaining to set up the final shot. Out of the timeout the Camels work it around the perimeter, as NewCath does a great job protecting the paint. The Camels are forced to settle for a Taylor Clos (I think it was her) 19 footer from the wing that takes a high carom off the rim and that's your ballgame. For the 2nd night in a row NewCath gets absolutely killed on the glass at both ends, and easily missed 13 to 15 gimmes/layups. On the plus side, the passing to one another on fast-breaks and running their offense is a thing of beauty. :ylsuper: Campbell Co. was very patient in their offense, and did a great job passing to find the open player on the "dump-downs". The also did a great job on the offensive and defensive glass. If NewCath just hits half of their missed layups, this is a 13-15 point game.....easily. RCC9 Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Very nice win for the Breds! CC seems to struggle against the zone. I'm not sure why, but teams can slow them when playing it.
JTrunick Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Hard to run a motion offense into a packed in defense protecting the paint. The Camels seem reluctant to shoot the outside jumper this maybe something they will need to work on as they certainly should see more zone defense the rest of the year..
Dozer61 Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Wow, great win for the Breds. I said it a couple of weeks back that they are talented team that you just can't sleep on. Suprised by the lack of production at the tail of the game but win is a win.
NKU20 Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Wow, I thought CC was the team to beat in the 10th.
HeGotGame Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Got to watch my first girls game this year and what a game to attend. Ncc Davenport was awesome. The way she takes the ball to the basket is impressive and her passes were even more impressive. She is tough. I was really impress with Ncc passing last night if they can cut down on turnovers they can be a scary team come March. On side note probably the first time I went to a girls Ncc game and heard the name Pangallo.
lawildcat Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Wow, great job, Lady Breds! Was not expecting this final!
Mustang Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Wow, I thought CC was the team to beat in the 10th. Mason County is the team to beat in the 10th.
TripleSevens Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 WOW! WOW! WOW! :lol2: Thanks LB for the updates. :thumb: I was in the basement painting, and checking my phone as best I could without getting paint on it. Great win for the Breds!
cricket91 Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Wow, I thought CC was the team to beat in the 10th. Mason County is ranked #1 in the 10th. Campbell County is #2 and along with a couple others will challenge. Campbell is 5-0 vs the 10th. They have beat Highlands, Conner, Notre Dame...and stand 4-1 vs the 9th. They lost by 1 point at NCC. "Wow"?! As for the game, Lawnboy was spot on. Although, from the other side, we felt Campbell could have easily won by 10-12 if they had not missed many open looks as well. Davenport was absolutely the difference maker for the Breds.
CKC Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 The Lady Camels will be fine. I wouldn't be surprised if their shooting % was around 20% and still only lost by one. Also, this NCC team took Highlands to the wire a few days ago. They are better than given credit for.
CAP Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 Great game last night Danenport was the best player on the floor by far, she pretty much did everything. NCC matched up well with the Camels and I said in a post a long time ago that the Camels were going to miss Carson Gray her leadership you can't replace, in my opinion they don't have a leader. NewCath was the better team.
