nWo Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 First, Happy New Year to everyone. Now for the reason of this thread. Looks like the weather pattern is starting the change as my outlook for this winter predicted earlier in the year. I'm watching the time period of January 10-13 for our area. The long range GFS model has been showing a possible system developing just off the Gulf Coast of Texas and moving towards Kentucky. Now let me say it is way too early to predict what type of precip or how much accumulation but with the temps looking to be near normal for January it needs to be watched. 8-14 day temp outlook 8-14 day precip outlook GFS for 1/9/16 GFS for 1/10/16
True blue (and gold) Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 As usual, thanks nWo, for keeping us up to date and planning ahead!
Jumper_Dad Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 @nWo is there a weather app that you'd recommend? I've used Accu Weather and Weather Channel in the past but all seem to be lacking somewhat especially on long range forecasting a week out or so.

Pioneer.Pride Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 nWo, it must be a boring winter for you so far! Lets keep it that way! Good job on that 60 degree weather in December!
Jumper_Dad Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 Probably means we'll be hunting Easter Eggs in the snow!
Jumper_Dad Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 On a serious note, these not quite freezing temps forecast for the next several weeks are ripe for freezing rain which I think we can all agree is much worse than getting snow.

Remember my winter weather outlook last summer called for possibly 1-2 ice events for Kentucky in January.

I thought it would be a warmer than normal December so I was prepared for it. So far this winter is going as predicted. February is where my most concern is.
Jumper_Dad Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 The main one I use is Weatherbug. I used to have the Bug on my computer but kept having issues with it crashing. I haven't tried the app. I'll give it a whirl.
SportsGuy41017 Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 Let's not forget the North Pole that now has temps over 50 degrees above normal and pushing 40 degrees.

Jumper_Dad Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 I didn't like the computer at either. It caused too many problems but the iphone app works great. I've downloaded it...it looks good. It seems to have most of what I like in a weather app.
nWo Posted January 2, 2016 Author Posted January 2, 2016 Here's the new experimental forecast map I found. It is now showing the first signs of possible winter precipitation next weekend. It shows, as of now. a 10% chance or snow or sleet up to an equivalent of .25" of water. Now please remember this is experimental from the NWS and I'm uncertain as how accurate it is.
