Has the EYBL parted ways with the KY Travelers

Featured Replies

I'm catching wind that this is what has happened. Can anyone confirm this?

Nothing? 5 hours later and no one knows anything?

I was told they are no longer on EYBL. They and 3 other programs were replaced with new teams. They will continue to recieve Nike gear, etc but no longer part of the league.

So what does that mean for them tournament wise? Obviously they won't be at EYBL events but will there be Nike tournaments they can attend or will they be on their own?

Will the Travelers still be able to pull in some of the best from KY or will they lose their luster?

What kind of options do they have right now? It sucks for their organization because it takes time to build a true brand. I know their record may have been subpar last season but it seems like they had a really short leash. What did they have...3 years?

I can't help but wonder if kids will leave Travelers and choose other programs.

The Tennessee Travelers were an original EYBL team. They just moved to Ky 3 years ago.

They will likely play a schedule similar to non shoe teams. Try and play biggest non shoe events.

At this time there are 2 Adidas teams in Ky and that's it as far as shoe circuit teams go. So if a kid wants to play on the circuit it's Adidas or leave the state.

16U Travelers are still playing the EYBL 16U events, correct on the 17U sitting out this year. Nike does not budge on their 40 team maximum for 17U and each year they have teams that may have to sit a season and then play their way back on the 16U level to be included in the 40 for that following season. Good example is Team United from NC who has been a Nike program team that did not compete last season 17U. Their 16U team made it to the 16U Peach Jam session in Augusta and is now included in 17U this upcoming season.

They play a fixed schedule in 17U EYBL while the 16U EYBL plays a tournament format to qualify for the respective Peach Jam Championships. Because of the format differences, they do not have a hard maximum of 40 for 16U which includes the 40 programs from 17U and about a dozen other programs.

Is the 16U roster cemented yet or is it going to be built over the next few months?

My understanding is yes

Does this really surprise anyone? To stay on a circuit of that level, you have to consistently do 1 of 2 things. Win, or produce pros. They did neither

Not true...

Please enlighten us. lots of rumors out there. Can you provide some facts?

I was told by director of AAU in ky that Nike was leaving the state of ky. Whatever that means IDK.

I was told nike was pulling out of ky completely.

I thought one just moved in, Kentucky Premier.
