There is a difference between a Nike sponsorship and a "Nike Friendly" deal. A Nike friendly deal gets you discounted gear and usually an allotment of funds to use towards that gear. So you may get 50% off Nike gear and get $10,000 to spend on that gear.

 

A Nike sponsorship that gets you EYBL membership is more like free gear (up to a certain dollar amount) and a travel budget for hotels, airfare, etc.

 

While the girls side of Premier is on the girls EYBL circuit and gets the money, gear, etc., their boys programs would be the recipients of a Nike friendly deal. You will not see them on the Boys EYBL circuit.

The question was thrown out there in the original post whether the EYBL has parted ways with the Travelers and then morphed to a discussion about KY Premier. Posters associated with KY Premier clarified their hope for the future on how they would like for their boys program to one day follow the path that their girl's trajectory has taken which has been remarkable. I think it is fair to say their program is Nike sponsored and they can choose to fund their program teams (boys or girls) in any way they choose. No question their EYBL girls teams will be representing the state well on the Lady's side of EYBL as they always have.

 

As it relates to the Boys EYBL and The Travelers speculation it has been both accurate, but also missing some of the facts. They will remain a NIKE sponsored (not Friends of Nike) team that will be playing on the 16U EYBL circuit with still a possibility on the 17U circuit as well, although that has not been determined or finalized like 16U has.

 

The 16U team will be on the circuit where only 16U NIKE Program teams compete in exclusive EYBL tournaments for elite teams from throughout the country that have contracts that enable participation in these EYBL events. For those speculating or curious about the status of The Travelers I hope that clears things up.
