December 8, 201510 yr Seems like the 76ers are starting to take more and more heat for being a god awful team. Some talking heads are saying that the other owners should black ball them, that the commissioner should step in and do something. How is what the 76ers are doing any different than what the Cubs or Astros did? Those two teams are praised for their mentality and how it worked out. Many say the Reds should follow their blueprint. Why is it so different than what the 76ers are doing? Or even "Suck for Luck" in the NFL?

Okafor, for example, is just 19 with no defensive game to speak of. While his offensive is well ahead of the curve, he simply isn't ready to be the best player on a team, which he already is. They have no guards worth mentioning, and we're in what, year five of the process? At some point they will have to actually have a draft pick pan out, and the hope is Ben Simmons will do just that. Also, having the worst record doesn't guarantee them the #1 pick as it does in both the NFL and MLB. I think the fear is derived from an inability to evaluate talent before the draft. Simply put, it's hard to determine what kind of player you will get based on 30 games in college, compared to 3-400 games in college plus minors. You could also look at the Jaguars and ask the same questions.

They have a much smarter front office now, and their getting more value out of their picks. That's the other place the Sixers are significantly inadequate.

December 8, 201510 yr The issue with Philly is that, from an outsider's perspective, they appear lost. It doesn't appear that they have any organizational plan in place, whereas the Cubs and/or Astros were in "rebuilding" mode. During their down years, they stocked the minor leagues with talent. Obviously, the NBA doesn't have a minor league system that allows the players to develop, but the Sixers have had a lot head scratchers. A quick example: In 2013 the Sixers traded Jrue Holiday & the 42nd pick for Nerlens Noel. Noel was coming off of knee surgery and was very raw offensively. He was, at a minimum, a year away from contributing. The next year (2014), the Sixers selected Joel Embiid. Embiid had several injury concerns and, like Noel, was raw offensively. In 2015, the Sixers AGAIN select a big man. I can't fault them for taking Okafor, but enough is enough.

Top 5 is probably a reach, but Bortles may actually be an NFL quarterback. I think solidly inside the top 10 should be expected though.
December 9, 201510 yr I think the Astros are more of an outlier, instead of the rule. They drafted EXTREMELY well. Most teams miss on 1 or 2 players, but the Astros didn't. I would say with the Cubs though the difference is Theo Epstein. Hopefully Jerry Colangelo can have a similar impact on the 76ers. But they just haven't drafted well. They have 3 big guys taken in the last 3 drafts that aren't worth a packet of gatorade at this moment. Everyone in the league has been drafting good young guards who can shoot the ball, but not the Sixers. They're a joke. The worst franchise is American professional sports at the moment.
