Will Boyle County ever be a 3A power again?

Featured Replies

It may depend on how you define a "3A power." I think that they will now be a perennial top 4 or 5 team in 3A, and I fully expect them to win titles in the future. However, I would be surprised if they managed to pull off a 6 year run like they did in the recent past, winning 5 titles and appearing in 6 straight title games. Measured against that standard of success, it will be hard for BC not to fall off a bit. In my opinion, they will be a 3A power for quite some time.

Most rural public schools are going to have an occaisonal dip in talent. Private schools and large, urban settings don't experience this as much.

For as of a 3A power again? I think even last season "AS" (After Smith) they where still a power in 3A. Maybe not as much as in the past, but still Boyle was a team to be reckened with in the playoffs.

They are STILL a 3A power. They were 11-2, that's very good. They only had one loss in 3A, they went to the regional finals. They aren't going to win a state title every year. They had an incredible run. They also had incredible talent during that run. That is the biggest difference, the players they have now are good, but they don't have as much D-1 talent as before. However, they aren't going away.

I wasn't aware they had stopped being a 3A power. I think Boyle Co. is still a top team in KY (in 3A), and starts this season with a legitimate shot at making it to Louisville in November. Are they a Top 3 or 4 team (preseason) in Ky? Maybe not. However, they are certainly still a Top 10 team, and I believe that most fans of other 3A schools still look at them among the 3A powers.

Maybe other people's definition of a "power" and mine are just a little different.

People are suffering from UCLA-syndrome when judging Boyle County...winning 5 straight championships in two different classes is not something anyone should "expect", but they sure should enjoy it if it doesn happen.
