Pikeville vs. Henry Clay

Featured Replies

Pikeville beat Henry Clay the last two times they played, but it's been a while. It won't happen this time though, although it might be a better game than people think.

Those were the 87 and 88 undfeated state title teams that were arguably 2 of the best 1a teams of all time in this state. Well have a very good team this year but were not in that ballpark...........yet! Ill be at the game cheering my lungs out for my beloved Panthers but in the end I believe HC depth will be too much for them. But this is one time I hope Im wrong.

Lot better matchups than Henry Clay in the PCB, IMO...

To name a few:

Corbin

Middlesboro

Matewan, WV (multiple state champs)

Bell Co

Rockcastle Co

Breathitt Co

Grundy, VA

Richlands, VA

Gate City, VA (multiple state champs, my personal favorite, would love to see this one)

Bluefield, WV ("The Bluefield Beavers," multiple state champs, Pikeville beat them a few years back when they were ranked #1 in all classes in WV.)

and many more...

This matchup with HC makes no sense for anyone...

And actually I think everyone on my list is a state champion...

I agree Id love to see some out of state teams in the PCB, and with Pike Co. bordering 2 states that have some dang good football teams on the other side of those borders should be something the folks at community trust bank and WYMT should look at.

The problem with WVA and VA schools playing in the bowl is the early date of the bowl...neither WV or Va start their season that early.

The Rockets have Finals appearances but no championships.

We're getting too far off track here. Let's keep the thread about this game and maybe start a new one to discuss the Pike Co Bowl and how to make it better.

Thanks all. :thumb:

ttt

Only Pikeville and Belfry play in the Pike County Bowl...

And only state champs are invited to play them...

Everyone playing in the bowl is a state champ...someone will pick up on this idea and run with it...PCB should do it first...

2007

Pikeville vs. Gate City, VA

Belfry vs. Bluefield, WV

All state champs, all MULTIPLE state champs, HUUUUUUUGEE...

Since WV and VA start a week later, make it the second week of the season if necessary...
