Sec. 1) Provisions on Recruitment/Undue Influence

a) A pupil (domestic or foreign) at ANY GRADE level shall not be recruited to a member school of the KHSAA for the purposes of athletics...

Sec. 2) DEFINITION

a) Recruiting is defined as an act, on behalf of or for the benefit

of, a school, which attempts to influence a student to transfer

to a member school for the purpose of participating in athletics

b) A school official utilizing an intermediary including a peer,

another school employee, a student, a parent or a citizen,

for the purpose of recruiting a student athlete shall be in

noncompliance.

c) An athletic coach or any other member of the school staff shall

not infl uence a student even if the student, his or her parents or

any intermediary from another school makes the initial contact.

In this situation, a coach or staff member (paid or unpaid)

Sec. 3) PENALTY

a) Any representative of a member school knowingly allowing

the recruitment of a student for the purpose of participating in

athletics or who should have known of this recruitment shall

be guilty of willful neglect of duty, misconduct, or breach of

contract.

b) This shall apply not only to coaches, but also to personnel

supervising coaches, including an athletic director, an

assistant principal, a principal, an assistant superintendent, a

superintendent or a school board member.

c) This requirement shall also apply to students or their parents.

How do you prove its for athletics if they "sell" the school. If I am a coach I could say think about XYZ school. We have a great diverse student body, education, and our basketball team has a great future. Then talk about how great the school is again. I have a 8th grader and I am in the middle of all this drama as she decides where she is going to high school. HC is a very real option. BTW her sister plays for NDA and my 8th grader played for Macke and the royals between soccer seasons. I know more about what's going on first hand then 99% think they know.

Not correct BS and St P are feeder schools for NDA and IHM is St Henry. They are not feeder schools for HC.

The Alliance for Catholic Urban Education (ACUE) provides an opportunity to financially assist parents so they can choose a Catholic education for their child. Many families benefit from this great program, some of those kids just happen to play basketball. The majority of families that benefit, do not play basketball. Is that what you are referring to? If yes, I have no problem with families applying for assistance so they can choose a great school like Holy Cross.

 

This family would not need assistance but nice try.

Kylie Stava went to highlands from St Pius for soccer. She played club for the highlands head coach. She is friends with his daughter. No why not the bashing of highlands for this. Why because they still can't win a regional so no one cares.

 

Again that's one player not several players at one time, are you that much in denial think outside the HC box just a little.

Not a shocker to have middle school players on the bench, class A schools have to do it to survive. Maybe not every year but it is a common occurrence out of necessity.

That is correct. But Holy Cross has many kids that come from these schools. Just because you "feed" to a school, doesn't make it the best fit for every kid. Covington Catholic and NDA are fantastic schools! However, they are not a fit for every student and families at St. Pius and BSS have chosen HC.

It's just weird how a grown man is so absorbed by HS girls basketball. Weird. Very weird.

 

When adults get so obessed where kids go to school I just laugh. I have more important things to worry about in my life.

I don't care. I think kids should play wherever they want. The comedy just ensues when the poster who keeps blasting over and over with no specific rule violations comes from a school that has benefited from transfers over the years.

 

I'll say it again if you think anything going on at HC is any different than any other school you are either blind or not as well versed on HS athletics as you claim.

 

I can point to dozens of examples at almost every major school in NKY in my time there playing and watching HS athletics of the exact same things you are claiming are shady.

 

Most former players I know from the 9th are laughing every time you post.

 

Again I ask spell it out in the 90th thread , what rule was broken and what shady thing was done.

 

I have no dog in this fight either way but I think there is a problem with the parents if they send a kid to a school because they want to play a particular sport. For those that say HC or any other private school is better when it comes to academics then they need to do some research on that information. This recruiting or whatever you want to call it is what's wrong with kids sports today and it's caused by the parents and honestly the when at all cost attitude needs to change because it's not healthy for kids. This is high school not college.

I don't know all the rules and neither do you, so I can't say whether rules were broken or not. And if you think it's just about one kid transferring that decided to go to the school for education, you haven't paid close attention. If Mike Mitchell went to HHS, that's great. Its how he got to HHS is what's different. And is what's different than all the other kids that transfer that I don't care about. If that's all this is, then tell me why I'm on HC and no one else. To your point...it happens all the time right? Then why am I and other posters on HC about it? Doesn't that seem strange to you. I'm not going to say whether they broke rules or if they just stretched them of if they morally went out and did something (within the rules). I don't know all the answers to all the things I know and have heard. That's up to the KHSAA and the parents at HC to decide. It's not just about a kid transferring to HC. I would be on a witch hunt for just about every school, including the one I support! If you want to know the whole story, pm me and I'll tell you!

 

And for the record...I'm in agreement with you. I'm okay with kids playing anywhere they want...as long as everyone plays by the same rules.

What Ft Thomas feeder did she go to? when did she make that switch? Why has no one complained about these? I think if we look back we can find the same amount going into FT as elsewhere, maybe more.

A lot of folks talking about this are saying what they feel is going on. A lot of folks that are defending it are saying "well what if..."...providing different scenarios than it could be.

I have no idea who you are, so I have no idea if you are one of the ones I heard about going to HC. But if any of that has happened, it's a violation. Not saying it has. I know one parent was approach by lets just say the leader to come to the for mentioned school. I will not reveal the family so don't ask me.

Wow! Let me put it to you this way. First, Coffey's both went to Ruth Moyer. Yes, a feeder school to HHS. You also have some southgate kids on the list. Another school that feeds HHS all the time. You also have some that started in Ft Thomas and then moved, but stayed in the schools. And you also have some that came on their own and transferred. And in some of those cases, they came because their parents are alums. And you have listed a bunch of kids over time. not all at once. I think any school would have a long list of transfers over a period of time. But attack all you want. This is different and you know why if you read the rules that were posted above. If you are that close to it, I bet all the things going on are not in compliance with how the rule reads, correct?

 

But to all those examples, they came because they wanted to come. Not because they were influenced by administrators, coaches or other parents. Thats the difference if you really need it spelled out for you. Remember, I'm not concerned that kids are going to HC...It's how they are getting there and why they are making that decision. Remember, I agreed that transfers and kids changing schools happens all the time. Why are some of us only focused on HC? No one has answered that. It's because most know why they are getting the attention that all these other schools that receive transfers are not. We aren't jealous. We don't care that a kid transfers. We don't care if HC is good in basketball. I actually root a lot for the smaller schools. Heck, NCC is one of our biggest rivals and I am amazed how they do things and am a fan. I love the small schools and what they can accomplish. Heck, look at the Dayton thread. I don't care who is good and who is not, as long as they all play by the same rules.
