November 29, 201510 yr Have the Power 5 Champions get an automatic bid and the final 3 are in based upon the committee rankings. This year it would be ACC: winner of Clemson and North Carolina Big12: Oklahoma SEC: winner of Alabama and Florida B1G: winner of Iowa and Michigan State PAC12: winner of Stanford and Southern California This would give a better representation of the top teams in the college playoff. Your thoughts?
November 29, 201510 yr Gonna happen. That said I love the current format, and it's one that's gonna leave my Buckeyes out. Think 4 is perfect.
November 29, 201510 yr I don't like automatic berths. I don't want a 4 loss Conf Champion getting in over a 1 loss Non-Conf Champion. Perfect example, would 4 Loss USC deserve to get in over Ohio St or another 1 loss team this season. What if PAC and ACC both had teams with 3 or 4 losses slip in and win Conf Title game some year while Michigan, Michigan St and Ohio St all have one loss and a marquee win on the season. Take the best 8 regardless of where they are from and play it out.
November 29, 201510 yr I want champions of the following to meet in the playoffs.. SEC vs ACC BIG 12 vs PAC 12 AAC vs BIG 10 Highest ranked Independent vs highest ranked CUSA/MAC/MWC/Sun Belt

Put all champs in and play it out
November 29, 201510 yr Author Thanks for all who posted. I believe the final solution will be to allow all conference champions in and then pick the at-large teams. If you have 16 teams, then all 10 conference champions get in. This will leave 6 at-large teams which would allow for all of the 1-loss teams and a few 2-loss teams to make the playoff.

Sure this would be ideal....however, good luck convincing the current $$$ beneficiaries of how they could and would either make the same amount or more in the new format. The Bobs Tire Bowl folks may not go for it. How will you appease the Rose, Fiesta, Cotton, Sugar Bowl, etc...folks as to what games they'll host ( quarter, semi-finals, championship final ). And what of the non-conference games that would have to be eliminated to accommodate the 16 team playoff schedule. A lot of schools rely heavily on those big paydays! Would you play 4 consecutive weeks of playoffs to the championship. Or go 3 and allow a 2 week break prior to the Championship? Just thinking out loud here GRC... Thoughts?

Then you have 32 and you have 64. 4 is pretty good and the best we can ask for. I do think every conf should have a championship game.
November 29, 201510 yr 4 teams provides the most drama and is greater to argue about, but 8 teams is the most fair. Winning your conference should matter IMO. Automatic bids for the power 5 schools 1 bid to the highest ranked non power 5 and 2 at larges. Unless you're a ND fan this is the most fair way to do. This way would almost force ND to join a conference. I think they have to be contemplating it at this point with 4 teams because they don't have that last week of the season to win a conference champ and impress the committee. 4 teams isn't that bad honestly and I wouldn't care if they left it at 4 I just think 8 is a more fair way to find the best team heck Ohio State squeezed in last year and the wound up winning. Who is to say TCU, Baylor, or Michigan St last year couldn't have done what OSU did? But 16 teams is way to many and too many bad teams would get in.

Incorporate all of the mid-level to top-level bowls. Move the season up 1 to 2 weeks.
November 29, 201510 yr It will be 8 as soon as the current contract is up. Power 5 champion & 3 at-large.
