I would agree with that one although I have never used that word in a crossword puzzle. Are you saying that certain officials may "suckuptify" to get ranked ahead of others? If so, does this influence ever so slightyly their decisions?

It very well may, however, knowing Mike as well as I do, and rumor has it you may know him as well, (so far as to say he may have some bovine in him) I would highly doubt that he would lean towards any direction other than the correct one. He's a quality person and official IMHO.

I couldn't agree with you more, I think he is a quality person. He may not only be the best referee in the 16th, he may be the fastest and could very well be 1/2 of the greatest dp combo ever, but that is my spin.

You know that dp's are a pitchers best friend and so are teammates girlfriends when you haven't eaten in what seems like days. My mind is made up my vote is for Alderman as the best. If my team were in the regional finals I would hope that he gets the nod.

I can't argue with the choice of Alderman. I would list Bobby Hall as a close second.

Well, I don't know about a close second. But, he has been to state a few times so he is doing something "right" I guess.

OK, I see about 70 basketball games each year and there are some good officials out there, but if I had to pick a 3 man crew today to call a BIG game (and this is not a knock on any other official out there) I would choose:

Bobby Hall, Joe Billman and Mike Alderman. Just my opinon, but I think these guys work well together and can handle any situation thrown at them. They take charge of the game without even being noticed. I have always said the best officiated game is one that you never even knew the officials were there. These guys are professional, knowledgable and great guys. They do what they do for the kids and no other reason.

Well said GR sometimes these guys get no props for the service they provide. We are quick to cut them down, it is good to give a nod every once in a while.

In an attempt to defuse this before it spirals out of control, let me explain that Scooterbob is, shall we say, "more seasoned" than most of the people that post on BGP.

 

The names he posted as good officials were men that were officials "back in the day". I don't know Foster "Sid" Meade, but the other two were both good men, and solid officials.

 

Scooterbob was simply giving them their due, even though they have long since left the whistle in the locker room. I don't think Scooterbob was trying to belittle any of today's officials.

 

I don't mean to speak for him, and I'm sure that he'll correct me if I'm wrong.

That's what I thought, Ms. Liberty. I just wanted to try to clear up what Scooterbob was saying, before it spun out of control.
