This is much closer! Nice job!

Looking at it through my Bluebird goggles...I'm curious why SK and Mason would be ahead of HHS. Not saying HHS should move up, just saying that HHS beat SK by 22 last year and both teams lost 2 starting seniors. As for Mason, I know they didn't lose anyone, but HHS beat them by 17 last year. With the loss of our two, it may put them more even, but not sure that far ahead. And I am surprised HC keeps landing on these lists as most local folks barely have them in the top 5 in NKY.

I know this is all just for discussion, but that's why we post these things!

Might see Johnson Central crack the top 20 by seasons end. They return every starter and two bench players from an Elite 8 team. May go under the radar this season.

Looks like a good list...There are so many teams that can beat each other at least half the time..this should be a fun year..Ryle, Campbell Co, Henderson Co and Owensboro Catholic are a few off the top of my head that can compete with those listed above

Possible Mason Murray matchup in the second round of the Lex Cath tourney.

Considering that the #2 Male & # 8 Manuel both got beat last Sat by teams not on the list I would say we are in for a very exciting year of basketball. (Before anyone says it.......I know they were scrimmages)

Wow Henderson County not on the list!! That's nuts return four starters from last year and ranked 13th in Courier poll. Yes they lost 3 starters which your thinking that's 7 starters the two post players are back that didn't get to play half the season last year. In no way to i think they are top 10 but surely top 20.

Campbell also defeated Male in a scrimmage today by double digits.

Owensboro Catholic and now Campbell County beat Male in scrimmages... Maybe #2 is a little high? Or at least Campbell and Owensboro Catholic should be in top 20

I would say two things.

They were scrimmages. That's means a lot! Substitution patterns, strategy and preparation all can be different based on each coach and how they approach the scrimmage. I'm not saying either of those teams can't beat Male, but I would say I wouldn't put a lot stock in the scrimmages. They can give you a sense of where a team's talent level is, but I wouldn't make drastic assumptions about what a scrimmage means to a season. There are teams that play better with a "street ball" or AAU style and some that improve a ton when they are structured. Scrimmages don't have much structure. I hear all the time that team X looked great this summer or in their scrimmages. And then became pretty average once there was a game plan focused on them.

And no one has ever adjusted preseason rankings based off scrimmages. The rankings will work themselves out when the games count.

I agree. Usually teams with the more 'talented' or seasoned teams tend to experiment a little. For the most part, they already know what their teams do well and simply use scrimmages to try different lineups etc... When the underdog is usually pulling out their best silverware.

That doesn't mean the top dog doesn't want to win though.

I don't think you can compare a summer scrimmage to a preseason scrimmage. I also dont think you can base any rankings on a preseason scrimmage but Male losing twice has to raise some eyebrows. Male plays with a attitude that is sometimes a goodthing and at time works against them(6 T's in ascrimmage and the coach getting tossed).

Wasn't necessarily comparing summer and preseason. Just saying neither of them count or are played the way an in-season game would be played. Therefore, when I hear someone looked really good in either, I take it with a grain of salt and really don't place too much emphasis on it.

Prime example is Highlands. They rarely look "Really good" in either because they are a very structured team on both ends of the floor. They are athletic enough to play with teams in that environment, but look MUCH better with team structure.

Other very athletic teams can look really good until team put game plans together to slow them down. Holmes is a prime example of that. Teams that didn't know them or played them straight up, they killed. Once they played teams athletics enough and smart enough, it slowed them down and at times looked confused in half court sets. VERY good team, but playing them straight up vs. having a strategy to slow them down creates two different outcomes.

That all makes sense. Only interesting part would be all the T's on the Male coach.. If he were experimenting and didn't care about the score, would he be so rattled? I also agree with the other poster that says summer and pre-season are two different things.

But overall your right that it's scrimmages and they should only influence pre-season rankings in a small way.
