Just my opinion. When our best player guards their best player, that makes her the best. Who will Campbell put on her? I know Bracken will not put Cummins on her or at least they never have.

 

 

Sorry sumo I value your opinion very much, but i cant agree with ya on this. Mason County may very well have the best team in the region as of today, but we have the best player. O'Mara may indeed be the best defender but offensively it Cummins hands down. And when ppl start ranking players their offensive numbers is where they form opinions.

Looking at it through my Bluebird goggles...I'm curious why SK and Mason would be ahead of HHS. Not saying HHS should move up, just saying that HHS beat SK by 22 last year and both teams lost 2 starting seniors. As for Mason, I know they didn't lose anyone, but HHS beat them by 17 last year. With the loss of our two, it may put them more even, but not sure that far ahead. And I am surprised HC keeps landing on these lists as most local folks barely have them in the top 5 in NKY.

Wow! You want to go there huh?? You do realize that hhs' 5 year starting point guard didnt play right. And a lot of Mason's point came off turnovers right. And Adler, a career 85%nfree throw shooter was 0 for a lot at the line and 1 for like 7 or so from 3 (career 46% three shooter) did not have a great game to say the the least. She knows it and would have no issue telling you or me that. The birds will be just fine. I saw plenty to tell me just what I needed to know. If you read any of my stuff, the season and scrimmage is much different. HHS has never been and will never be a "scrimmage" team. They are extremely structured on both ends of the floor and that is not how they approach scrimmages. Most of what I was worried about was answered today I I feel just fine on where this team will end. This was a typical scrimmage for them.

 

Let's see what the score looks like I'm Jan 21 before you pass judgement. Bet it looks much different in a real game.

 

Man, I was very complementary of this Mason team last year after the Birds took it to them and this is how you return the favor. I guess I'll have to rethink my judgment on that fan base.

That's a valid opinion! And you're right, I can't tell you who CC will play on O'Mara. What I will say is I think that whatever happens with O'Mara, Boone, Littleton Frodge and Mcnutt won't have any problem covering. That's what makes MC arguably the best team in NKY in my opinion. No other team has the consistency of play in their starting five. That's only in NKY though, let's not start comparing them to the E-Town five or the Mercer five.

 

Don't care about Etown, Mercer, Sacred Heart, etc. Mason has to win district and Region in order to worry about those other teams.

Well my friend I can't answer that one. If I had to guess its gonna be Cummins, Ruf, or Kalb. Kalb can match up with her size wise. Ive heard rave reviews about Bailey and how her defense has improved over the summer. So who knows.

From what I was told (I was not there so don't take this as fact) All of the starters for HHS played. I don't know how much time they played bc of injury. I was also told that Adler (sp?) had 5 points only. Shut down by MC guard play.

 

I'm not sure it was the mc defense that shut Adler down. She is a shooter and missed very many wide open thres and all her free throws. That is not her at all. Again, she is a career 85% free throw shooter and shot probably 8 free throw and made none. She is also a career 46% three point shooter and shot 6-8 and made one. Very few were contested. She just wasn't herself today. Glad it happens today and not in a real game. She'll be just fine. And so will the birds. If you would have told me Adler shot probably the worse game of her career and Coffey didn't play against a top ten team in the state, it should have been a lot worse. When the majority of the starters were in in the first half, HHS held a 10 point lead. That was relinquished once the substitutions got broader in the first half. So that may tell us mason is deeper. But not sure that much better (as you are alluding to) when all the top 6-7 were playing agaisnt each other. HHS played 13 kids in the varsity scrimmage. Again, I think we'll be just fine.

Didn't say they didn't play any more. But the substitution pattern was much more open and they didn't play together very long at all. My point is, when the scrimmage simulated the closest thing to a real game and both teams were playing their top 7-8 players, HHS was just fine and that was without their starting PG and Adler with her worse shooting day I can ever remember and I've been watching her since 3rd grade. Rolling in the second half when both sides opened it up a little tells me Mason may be a little deeper. But that doesn't mean in an actual game that both teams were trying to win that Mason is that much further ahead in a ranking, like you seem to be insinuation with your original comment. Guess we'll see in the third week of January.

Kenton County School Board has this mundane after school activity policy that does not allow after school activities if school was canceled. So, a week of no school, means a week of no practice. That is when HHS caught SK last year. Same thing happened the year before with NCC. The current super is simply not a supporter of athletics. I for one will not miss her when her contract is up.

You came on the thread to make a point that I shouldn't be surprised that they should be ranked so differently based on the outcome of final score of the scrimmage. I say they are pretty darn even when both teams play their starters. So yes, they should still be placed very close in any poll, regardless where you want to rank them.

 

And by the way, that 7-0 lead they jumped out to was erased very quickly. They also jumped out to a 7-0 lead to start the game but quickly found themselves down 10 after that start. And again, several of the MC points were off turnovers. HHS will protect the ball much better when their PG plays. We can talk semantics all you want. The fact is that I still stand by my comment that when it means something, these two teams are very close. If they played ten times, it may be 5-5 with both teams at full strength. You were saying differently based on the outcome of a scrimmage.
