South scored 21 points in the first after a quick start. However they got a few players banged up and had to leave the game. Some may be precautions since they took the quick lead and FS really couldn't get a lot going on offense there lone score came off a pass play and broken tackle.

 

I wil say after the first quarter FS settled down and started to play with a little passion. There were a lot of good hard hitting out on the field.

 

For South it as a great team effort with a lot of players contributing on both sides of the ball.

Thought maybe if FS could keep it close early they may have a chance, but it was over in the first quarter. Offense moved the ball better than the first game as they opened up the passing game a little bit but SW came out of the gate offensively much better than the first game. Flea flicker for a TD by SW hurt, but I have to admit it was a pretty play. Too many missed tackles by the FS defense early, got in too big of a hole. FS played better in the second half, but it seemed like SW just eased up knowing they had the game in the bag.

 

Congrats to SW. Can't help but point out the fact that SW has 5A enrollment but the KHSAA for whatever reason took a 4 year average instead of a 2 year average to determine where teams were classified. Makes a difference when you have a bigger student body to choose from, that's why they have 6 classes in the first place. However, the kids on the field don't have anything to do with that. All they can do is play the game they are in, and the Spartans have great talent and are very well coached. Good luck next week against Shelby Co.

 

Franklin-Simpson had 14 players out with injury tonight, and lose some good seniors this year. However, they bring back most of their skilled players, had several sophomores and a few freshmen make big contributions this year. Probably going to come down to FS and SW for the next 3 years. Biggest question is if SW will be significantly down after losing so many seniors this year, or will they just reload with talent as Bowling Green does every year.

You had me until the enrollment statement. South actually does not have 5A numbers; they have 4A numbers with predicted 5A numbers by next season while they will still be in 4A. Gotta get the facts right..... So a Championship this year would be with legitimate 4A numbers, but next year possibly not due to rate of growth.

According to the figures I just saw on the KHSAA website, the highest 4 year average allowed in 4A was West Jessamine with 558 boys. The most recent enrollment figure I could find was for the 13-14 school year, which showed South Warren with 564 boys. Of course, SW's average over 4 years puts them squarely in 4A. West Jessamine is only in 4A because of schools such as Highlands choosing to play up, opening space for teams like West Jessamine (and Madisonville and Hopkinsville) to drop down. Maybe SW's numbers for 14-15 were below 564, I couldn't find that figure.

 

I did notice that the KHSAA is going to re-evaluate the figures after next season and will realign any schools up or down if they have had significant growth or decrease during the first two years of this alignment. Fair enough.

 

I know it sounds like I am just making excuses for Franklin-Simpson coming up short. FS did beat Madisonville and Hopkinsville in the playoffs and they have 5A numbers but are playing down to replace teams who are playing up. Easy to see why me and other fans of 4A size schools would complain. But it's also unfair to South Warren because if they do win the state title some people will say they had an unfair advantage.

I have to agree with doubletake. It's a shame you had to take the enrollment road, but haters will hate . Just curious as to how many kids FS dress. The sidelines didn't appear that lopsided from where I was . I have to say FS had a good football team this year. I'm hearing they have some really nice under class men coming on. As for the numbers in 4A, it's not just 4A teams calling you out for it. I've heard fans in 3A, 5A, and 6A all talk about how South shouldn't be in the class they are in because of the enrollment. FS gave correct statistics, and numbers don't lie. Sometimes you have to accept the truth. And yes, they'll always be doubt in my mind on whether or not they could've beat Cov Cath or Highlands. Who really knows? I want 2 state championships to stay in BG as much as anybody, but it's kind of redicoulous not only are they in the wrong class, but don't schedule any out of district competition. You could argue Central Hardin, but that is in no way a team that is a championship caliber team after I've watched them three times this year.

Isn't Central Hardin in final 4? Good club and was a good matchup with SW. CH is rolling after getting all players healthy.

South boys don't choose the class they play in and for that reason I just say congratulations to the boys at South Warren and good luck this next week! They are taking the situation they have been given and making the most of it so far this year and they should be proud. I hope they bring home the title.

My point is if 2 years had been used then south would just bearly been 5a and would have been given the option to play down since Logan co was.

You do know that SW played John Hardin, North Hardin , Central Hardin and Pope John Paul . All out of district ! To say these teams are nobodies is completely out of line . You do realize these teams made as far as FS . And one of them even further . You need to learn to lose . It's part of sports .

By these numbers, a difference of 5-10 males per school to determine class is hardly a reason for complaining!!! Honestly, it just makes teams complaining sound ridiculous....
