Wow! Congrats to Lexcath! I was at the Boyle v Central game and saw how tough Central was. So for you to go in their and get the win is Really Impressive! Good luck next week!

This was a really hard fought game. Central is very good team and overall program from what I saw last night.

 

Very proud of the team for being able to overcome the turnovers in the first half, 3 of which came deep in Central territory. Handed Central their first touchdown with the muffed punt. Offense moved the ball well but shot themselves in the foot in the first half.

 

Jones had a very good game running the ball. I don't know if the field was still soggy but the Knights ran the conservative style of offense that Coach Perry likes to go to win the ball is wet, lots of running and only really using the screen game to throw the ball. IIRC Catholic probably only threw the ball more than 10 yards downfield twice.

 

If you had told me it would be a low scoring, physical game where LexCath didn't use the pass and turned it over 4 times I would have guaranteed a loss. Very proud of how the team was able to beat Central in a game that in a lot of ways probably played out how they would like it.

3 missed FGs total for night and the missed extra-point.

 

First quarter attempt was well short from 25 yard line (35 yard kick), First 4th quarter kick was from 20 and was long enough but pulled left and final attempt with 7 seconds left the ball looks t to be spotted on the 14. it definitely had a chance without the partial block that I believe came in from the eidge or was Zach Middleton (#11) getting hand on it from behind line. Ball was on right hash on a short kick and had a tough angle.

 

So kicking game special teams were big part of story. I am sure there is a kicker for Central feeling bad. But the kicks were not centered and off the hash marks. With the wide hashes in HS it makes kicker's job harder.

There are no excuses for some of the early season struggles but we were a banged up team early in the season. Jaylen Jones breaks his hand at training camp and never played up to his level until midway through the season. We lost Legend to the collarbone against Cov Cath and then inserted Kirk Fagot for like a 8 game stretch. We lost the Lark and Carpenter our starting LT and LG to concussions in the 2nd quarter of the Johnson Central game so that hurt us in the trenches. Chris Thompson had a bad concussion against Ryle that sidelined him for a bit so the offense had guys hurt. On defense Andy Hickey played through a shoulder injury and when he came out that's when Cooper scored on 3 long scores.

 

All and all we front load the schedule to get it going when district play rolls around. We got our guys back and the confidence grew. For this to be a shock means you assumed and you know what they say about assuming.

I was NEVER shocked. I knew all along what LexCath had coming back in to the season. Of course with the exception of Legend. Just didn't know him coming in to the program. And with all the talk about weak, soft defense. I for one did not believe that from the get go. Oh and for another user making a statement about " Coach Perry's 2nd season and LexCath are even softer than ever before ". And believe user guy, that did not sit well with the coaching staff and the student/ athletes.

"Softer than ever" "And Coach Perry has them trending down" was used as a reminder during practice. Very angry team that has enjoyed the chip on the shoulder. If we are fortunate to make it to the title game we would have to have wins @ Central, @ E-Town and an earlier victory @ Boyle County, so guess what we earned that trip to the title game

Line play allowed Jones and Thompson to get yards on the ground.
