PepRock01 Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 0.3 point difference, meaning dead heat when take into account margin of error. Given how we performed last time we played Male I'd think boasting and puffing our chests is unseemly and inappropriate to say the least.
Doubletake1906 Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 NO WAY there are 6 Teams in the State better than South Warren and Bowling Green!!! That's just plain disrespectful! Lol!
TheAmishElectrician Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 (edited) It has always been my way of thinking that the home team in any sport should be given a spread that would help differentiate that advantage of playing at home especially in the playoffs and in football that would be a touchdown advantage. Take the power rating that both teams have, add six to the home team and subtract the visiting team's power rating. If the number is a positive then the home team should win by that amount and then if the number is a negative then the visiting team should win. With that having been said, Male is a favorite in my opinion. Edited November 18, 2015 by MentschTrachtGottLacht line reference
ShamrockChamps Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Have to admit I chuckled when I saw those ratings yesterday, anyone that follows these things knows those ratings don't mean a lick, just an old formula, but funny nonetheless!!

psychicscubadiver Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 NO WAY there are 6 Teams in the State better than South Warren and Bowling Green!!! That's just plain disrespectful! Lol! I could understand an argument that Bryan Station shouldn't be that high, but you'd have to have BG and SW in the 5th and 6th spot to fulfill your statement. St. X beat Bowling Green 45-19 and Male/Trinity are established as the top two. Do Scott County or Simon Kenton not deserve their placement?
thsrocks Posted November 18, 2015 Author Posted November 18, 2015 Have to admit I chuckled when I saw those ratings yesterday, anyone that follows these things knows those ratings don't mean a lick, just an old formula, but funny nonetheless!! It simply confirms Male's schedule since defeating the Rocks has not been very strong and Trinity picked up points by beating St Xavier handily last Friday. Remember, this formula is not a point spread, simply selecting a favorite. This formula was used by newspapers all over the United States back the 20s, 30s, and 40s for touting winners in college and high school contests. The C-J used to boast it was more than 80% accurate for picking winners. This formula "chose" state high school champions until the playoffs started in 1959. Litkenhous was used to select playoff teams through 1973. Better to be favored than the alternative.

NKY Bandit Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 IMO SW and BG should be ranked higher than Simon Kenton, Bryan Station, and Scott County... Not a chance either are better than SK or SC.
75center Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Better than SW: Male Trinity SC SK X BG Pulaski Co Owensboro
gchs_uk9 Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Litkenhous was used to select playoff teams through 1973. Better to be favored than the alternative. I think the Dickinson Ratings were used by the KHSAA to pick playoff teams, not the Litkenhous.

I think you are correct. The second game with St. X is probably what put Trinity over the top. Since they play on September 11th, both Male and Trinity have beat PRP (Trinity twice), Jeffersontown, St. Xavier (Trinity twice), and Seneca. Trinity's other wins were Eastern and Ballard, while Male's other wins Butler, Western, and Manual twice. Bottom line, the difference between the two is negligible and Friday's game should be a great one.
Doubletake1906 Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Better than SW: Male Trinity SC SK X BG Pulaski Co Owensboro Sorry but no... I guess you woke up this morning smoking the pipe.... Lol! 5A is down so putting 3 5A schools ahead of them shows your lack of knowledge. Simon Kenton and Scott County would not even score on South Warrens Defense. And 85% of the people in Warren County would tell you that SW is the better team between them and the Purples, so you are further proving your lack of knowledge. Nice try though!

Not because I don 't think we can win, should be a great game!
