November 16, 201510 yr There is no difference in what they are complaining about. Not sure what that has to do with my thoughts on expulsion. What did I miss? Not really aiming this at you I guess but in general. I mean these very things are what they wanted the admins to step down for and now they do the same? Just pointing out the double standards.
November 16, 201510 yr There is no way you are going to convince me that racism isn't a grounds for expulsion. Two people lost their jobs last week after not responding to reports of alleged racist incidents. Yet these students get a pass? Why? If white students had done this, it would be national news, students would be expelled and a civil rights law suit would be filed within the hour of the event occurring. But, I guess equality today means following a double standard. Were the white students who committed the racist acts at Mizzou expelled?

November 16, 201510 yr Hurts the cause. Absolutely. The cause has enough negativity surrounding it. This is not going to help at all.
November 16, 201510 yr Were they caught? Of course, no one cared about those acts until the football team decided to boycott so............

But, I guess equality today means following a double standard. A student thinks that whites are "better" than blacks i.e. racist. No chance in hell you can expel him for that. It's never happened. Name a time when a kid has been expelled for saying whites are better than blacks.
November 16, 201510 yr If you don't know the schools expulsion policy, how can you say what does or doesn't constitute expulsion? Clyde's general guidelines for expulsion I'll assume no one on here that is saying a kid should be expelled knows the guidelines either.

Just pointing out the double standards. As I stated when the Mizzou stuff went down, I am not comfortable with the forced resignation. If the president has failed to foster an atmosphere that is welcoming then it was fair. Not being there I can't say it was fair or not. So who is the equivalent bad guy in this Dartmouth case?

November 16, 201510 yr http://www.nytimes.com/2015/03/11/us/university-of-oklahoma-sigma-alpha-epsilon-racist-fraternity-video.html?_r=0 Remember this case well. This centered entirely around the n-word - fairly or unfairly. I'd argue that the cases are not the same. Is calling someone a racist the equivalent of the n-word? Degrees.

November 16, 201510 yr Both are hate speech, intended to belittle and degrade one based on race, and should be treated equally. I don't think most would equate "racist" with the "n-word" especially those of a certain age. Maybe the younger generation does.
