Cannot contain my excitement for this game. Is it Friday yet?

 

I feel like a kid 2 days before Christmas morning.

You got this game, Male-Trinity, Mayfield-Owensboro Catholic, Ft. Thomas Highlands-Covington Catholic (I think)..............some potentially great match-ups. Ae there any others that come to mind?

Last year yes, when the safety broke his leg first play of the game and tight end and defensive end broke ribs later in the game wasn't in on PAT and the reason for the block. Not saying injuries aren't part of the game but they definitely played a major part last year

 

Especially when u only have 40 players total and almost 1/2 are freshman. CAL has 9 seniors on the team and most starters play both ways. It's really amazing what CAL has accomplished this year with as few players as they have and playing several freshmen.

Desales is a unique program. Getting 80-90 boys to come out for football in 2A is quite a accomplishment. Programs with 40-50 players can compete but have a much smaller margin for error. Also, the Desales coaching staff always seems to do a good job in changing up their defensive game plan in the second game. They dropped back in coverage on a large number of plays in the first game. I suspect CAL will see much more blitzing this time around. Of course like most people on this site you could put most of what I know about football on the head of a pin. The winning formula for Desales is to let that quarterback run the ball 20 times. He is quite an athlete. I suppose he could throw for 200 yards against CAL but I am just not seeing it. Not sure who Colt Dad is but he sure sounds like someone I would like to have a cold beverage with. Good luck to both teams. No matter what, beat Mayfield.

Regarding the CAL program, they are definitely elite. I truly believe had they come out on the upper hand of our playoff matchups the last two years, THEY would be the two-time defending state champs.

16-0 does not accurately describe the first games between these two powerhouses. The game was much closer than the score reflects and a to here or there for the other team completely changes the game. With that being said, anyone who has seen either team play should know that most score predictions that I've seen are way too high. Both teams won't score 28 points combined, much less one team alone. I played against cal in 2012. We lost regular season in what seemed like a decisive win at 30-21, but we won in the playoffs 21-16. Why? Desales brings it to another level when it comes to the playoffs. Why is it different during the regular season? I'm not sure, but please don't mistake the colts that will play Friday for the same colts that lost 16-0 in the regular season. The desales offense has been much more stagnant this year than in recent years, but expect a big game from Tharp, Johnson, and Simpson. Also, look out for that secondary of desales. Overlooked most years, but Wheatley sealed the victory last year against cal with a pick. My pick: Desales 10 CAL 7 in a very slow, boring, but defensive packed game!

In my opinion, if he would have been 100% in that game, Johnson would not have scored DeSales TD. I understand completely and that was in no way meant to take anything away from cal and their success. This game will be won on big plays on blown assignments. I think both teams can force their opponent to commit an error like this at least once, but I believe desales capitalizes on turnovers this time and comes out with the W. Look for this game to be 0-0 or 7-0 cal at half and the colts hit the gates running in the second half.
