CAL and Desales are both very capable of winning this game.. Desales D is so good that even when their O sputters, they'll still be in the game with a chance to win it and to be honest, I'm not sure CALs D isn't about as good.. Outside of the Central and S.Kenton games, CALs not given much up. I give the O advantage to CAL, as well, with the kicking game in Desales favor.. The CAL secondary is also very underrated.. They have length, quickness and instincts back there and break up a lot of passes..

No problem.. It's all good.. It seems that the majority of the year in 2a it's been all about that Desales/Mayfield matchup.. It'd be kind of ironic if neither made it far enough to see it and there's a real chance it could happen.. Even if both teams play well, they could still come away disappointed..

CAL and OC are tough opponenets. Here's the clincher for me.

 

DeSales-- Two time defending 2A State Champs.

 

Mayfield-- Three time defending 1A State Champs.

Last year yes, when the safety broke his leg first play of the game and tight end and defensive end broke ribs later in the game wasn't in on PAT and the reason for the block. Not saying injuries aren't part of the game but they definitely played a major part last year

I only remember one defensive TD. Not once have I seen anyone give credit to CAL for forcing turnovers. Just reasons such as bad play calls, execution, etc. Something has to be said for CAL's defense FORCING turnovers and capitalizing off of them.

Should be another defensive battle but if Johnson comes to play and converts some 3rd down passing plays, Desales wins.

One team making a mistake could just as easily be seen as the other team forcing them to make a mistake. Obviously, I see it from the DeSales side. I see the sixteen first downs and zero points because of the four TOs.

CAL is a big play team they thrive off of the 15+ yard receptions so naturally they aren't going to have as many first downs as a ground and pound team like DeSales. Also I think it's important to remember that many of the yards and first downs they got were at the end of the game when the second string QB came in and CAL sat back and let him run the clock down.

Good luck to both teams, and no injuries. I hope both teams play their best game possible and perform at a high level. 2 great programs that are represented by great young men and coaches. Both are very deserving and regardless of outcome, I hope one of these teams keeps the 2A title in Louisville!
