Happened last night.

 

Cooper player caught the ball pressed up against the sideline. He jumped up into the air and while in the air called a timeout and then landed back on the floor. Official granted the timeout request. Fans were upset.

 

Perfectly legal.

Isn't that not allowed in College (or at least used to not be)?

 

Also, I think at least at some point there was a different rule for a shot that hit the backboard but was blocked. I had heard that at one level that was called basket interference/goaltending/whatever, but not at another.

 

Differences in rules between different levels of basketball probably cause some confusion for fans.

If I am not mistaken in college the 5 second rule was disposed of, but it is still in effect in high school.

College does not allow a player who goes airborne to save a ball to call a timeout.

True for a dribbler but for a player holding the ball.

I hear "over the back!!!!!" every single game.

I have 2 questions. These incidents happened in the same game last night.

 

 

 

1. Ball is shot, comes off the rim and hits top of backboard. My guess is out of bounds. No call by the refs play on. Three very well known and respected 10th region officals. Our only guess is that it did not hit the backboard support that comes from the ceiling. After talking to one of our assistants Refs told them the didnt see it. :idunno:

 

 

 

2. If a player scores a basket in the opponets basket by mistake whom gets credit for said made basket? The player that made the basket or the closest player of the teams basket said shot was made in? The Announcer at the scorers table didnt announce who was credited with the basket. :idunno:

1) Top, sides, and bottom of backboard are in play. Back of backboard and supporting structures are not. Ball cannot go over the top of the back board and behind without being out of bounds.

 

2) The NBA credits it to the closest player. NCAA and NFHS credit it to the team as a footnote in the scorebook and not to any individual player.

Ball inbounded in front court and thrown by offensive team towards the backcourt. Offensive player touches the ball, it goes into the back court and they retrieve. Is it O&B? They did not possess it but simply touched it.

If you fall and slide I don't believe it's considered a walk, it's a walk if you try to roll over or stand up but you can slide as far as you like. Never stops a giant groan coming from the crowd when its not called.

Had this very situation in game mentioned above also. Was called O&B but didn't appear the inbounding team had possession ball was batted away into the backcourt
