A Texas mother says her daughter was kicked off an elite cheerleading squad because her hair is curly.

 

But cheer officials said it was because of the mother's "negativity" and unwillingness to compromise.

 

Woodlands Elite Cheer told 11-year-old Makayla Fallaw she needed to straighten her hair to match the hairstyles of her teammates.

 

Her mother Jenny met with officials to explain that straightening "would destroy her hair."

 

Team director Kevin Tonner said they attempted to find "a happy medium."

Wow, 11 years old and these type of demands are being made.

What if all the other girls but one are blonde, due you make the dark haird girls dye their hair as well?

 

My wife has naturally curly hair. She straightens it from time to time, but it takes her forever to do so. And it doesn't stay straight for very long. If she were to be dancing around, going flips, and getting sweaty as I assume these cheerleaders would do, than it would curl back up in no time.

Just get a big bow. No, bigger.

When my daughter was very young I told her I'd teach her everything she wanted to know about sports and buy whatever gear she needed just as long as she didn't want to be a cheerleader.

 

Worked.

The cheer MOMs are hilarious to watch.

But really, they are not any more or less freaking nuts than many football, basketball, baseball, soccer, or softball parents out there!

Every sport has it's nut jobs.

It's a private club competition team. The requirements should have been spelled out in advance.

I've often said that I fully respect the talent and the hard work required for cheerleading but I simply cannot stand a lot that goes with it. Don't even get me started on the sexualization you now see of girls as young as 6 years old. Cheer moms CAN be the worst.

My girls started doing it at 5 & 6 yrs old back in the early 2000's.

Competitions were like auditions to get into a grades 1-12 stripper academy.

 

Some of these competition squads are phenomenal. More athletic than some other sports teams - boys and girls.

They also have their own brand of extreme crazy!

 

Isn't Texas where there is something happen every year around this stuff? A mom paying someone to "hurt" another girl on the squad to get a spot for her daughter type of thing?
