JOAT... Why do you say a coach can only nominate 5 players from their team?

 

It is my understanding and I have been told that coaches can nominate 5 players from their team, but cannot vote for any members of their team when making their choices. Is this not correct?

 

A 6th or 7th player can make a team if a coach from another school votes for them even though they were not nominated by that player's coach.

 

If things have changed, I would guess that I am not aware of that.

Girls All-State selections were published on the 4th. I got a message last night from a Louisville contact that the boys were expected to be released today. Not confirmed but sharing.

Speaking of All-State, All-Region, etc.. Chris Froschauer who was all of those a couple years ago at Ryle just won the Big 10 goalkeeper of the year. Not really having anything to do with the thread, but still an awesome accomplishment that I thought I'd share for someone representing nky pretty well.

I think reputation, and longevity, carry a lot of weight when it comes to these awards. I'm not saying it is not a good thing the coaches are doing, it takes a lot of time and effort on their part and it is appreciated.... the dinner and match they have is a nice touch. I just think the system is not geared towards always picking the best, or most deserving players.

 

Reputation, good, bad or otherwise is partly self earned, so I agree players' reputation should not be completely overlooked. And this has nothing to do with this year's group of recognized players. I have been following HS soccer in NKY for over 15 years. Over the years I have seen players named to first or second team as a senior in large part due to their reputation and "potential" coming into their senior year. Then for a lot of different reasons, injury, lack of teammate support, moved to a different position, peaked his junior year/flattened out his senior year, the player did not warrant being named first team or second team based on his on the field play his senior year. The unfortunate circumstance as a result is another player more worthy of this recognition did not receive it due to reputation.

 

Not a perfect system but I also appreciate what the NKY coaches do for the players.

Motion to create a Western West Region team. Surely there would be one kid west of Owensboro that would deserve at least honorable mention. Unless I am wrong, no players selected from anywhere in the Pennyrile region.

Just caught wind of this today. I've mentioned Justin's name before on here. Congrats on winning one of those awards that exemplifies what a true athlete should be. The kid is a class act on and off the field. Coordinated the food drive at the BBHS. VS. CCHS game, donates many hours to charitable efforts, was the key speaker in the Brossart video promoting catholic high schools. These are just a few of the wonderful things he does outside of soccer and hoops. This kid will go places in life. Congrats to Justin and thumbs up to his parents as well Brossart High School!

The lad sounds like an exemplary young man and well deserving of the award and yes hopefully putting a spotlight on him will give witness to what HS sports in general should be about which is love of the game, sportsmanship, and representing the school as well as the broader BBHS community. Congrats to such a fine young man. He definitely sounds like he is going down a good path beyond his time at BBHS. On a related note, I just watched a replay of the FoxNews broadcast of the CCHS team's live interview and the Day kid came across as presenting himself in a similar manner which was also good to see.

As far as I know, there is no limit to how many players a coach can get nominated. The only restrictions are the team's coach must be a member of the association, participate in Soccerama, and they are unable to vote for there own players.

What if you sign up for Soccerama and then drop at the last minute? Does that count? Does that parameter apply to the ladies side? i don't think they have a Soccerama.

Girls have a soccerama not all teams choose to participate.

The girls association is completely separate from the boys. Each association does its own thing, and has its own rules. The rule was followed, but an exception was made for one team, that didn't have enough players to play yet that early in the year.

How in Gods name can you put DJ Sanders on the 3rd Team and Ian Manahan on the 2nd Team????? DJ SANDERS IS ST. HENRY'S BEST PLAYER BY FAR. If you put any St. Henry member before him you don't know soccer.
